Bring back the Australia Vs Australia A from the early/mid 90's.

That's put the up and comers in the spotlight and showed up a few first teamers

Great thread GVG. Why wouldn't we put all these guys on a bit of a rotation policy to really shake it up and put everyone on notice? We play so much cricket anyway these days we could easily play almost all these players over the next 24 months.. the best side would be a mixture of both your teams, but that first team (bar Paine) has been stagnant for a while now, especially the batting line-up. White and Khawaja have to get a look-in soon otherwise we're not really taking this thing seriously. Let Cam captain and let Punter and Clarke concentrate on batting, but hell would probably freeze over before we get another Victorian captain. Even Warney couldn't get a gig.

Gee that was hilarious in the mid 90's when Australia A and Australia played in the final and England missed out!!Though don't think the players were to thrilled with the concept

Should have put Aaron Finch in there.

Surprised there is no love for 'Ronald' McDonald.

I think it's forgotten that he was part of a reasonably successful period a few years back and while not being a star in any part of the game he is a very handy player who can perform a number of roles pretty well.

I think having Watsons bowling in the side makes a selection of McDonald more difficult.
I've never been a big fan of him except for the last 2 seasons but he is a very competitive player. If he was a touch better with the bat I think he would have played more games for Australia.

But wasn't the idea of this thread to put forward a team to take on the Aus 1st X1 to which Watson is a member?

True enough. Would you have him batting at 6 or as the 3rd seamer?

Probably 3rd or 4th seamer batting at 7, but all depending on match location.
