    Fernando Torres

just wondering what Liverpool fans on here thought s are about the sale of Fernando Torres? Personally on current form and injury problems I think It's to much money
The most alarming thing is that they've spent 35 million on Andy Carroll !!
Havier Hernandez who United signed for 7 million doesn't beat his girlfriend or snort cocaine scores goals with his instep, and the back of his head is looking like a bargain

    Re: Fernando Torres

I guess the practical reality is it is extremely difficult to keep a player if he doesn't want to be there.

Disappointed, obviously to see him go, more so that he's gone to another EPL club. Probably easier to tolerate if he had gone abroad.

His form this season wasn't as good as it has been & perhaps LFC realised it was time to cash in.

Hope he struggles at Chelsea & they win **** all!

Surprised at what was spent on Andy Carroll. Hope its money well spent tho.

      Re: Fernando Torres

Torres' timing is the most annoying thing for me. Jan window when good players are hard to find and putting in a transfer request just a few days before the cutoff meant that we were really put into a no win situation.

The amount we actually got for Torres was very good considering the circumstances. As for then spending so much of it on Carroll...it's clearly overpaying, by a long way, however, given the desperate need to replace Torres in such a short time and the upcoming changes to the amount of money clubs can spend on transfers, we realistically had to spend the money in this window and as such we way overpaid to fill a hole in the team that we desperately needed to fill.

How good Carroll can become in time, I really don't know. He has some great physical qualities, very good technical qualities but as you mention Remi, his professionalism off the field is a concern.

        Re: Fernando Torres

For those interested in what the upcoming changes are, here is the overview.

        The Financial Fair Play Rule

The Financial Fair Play (FFP) plan is designed to stop reckless spending by clubs and rich benefactors from injecting large amounts of cash, a practice which distorts the transfer market, pushes players' wages to astronomical levels and has a knock-on effect as other clubs try to keep up.

Clubs will instead have to live within their means by ensuring that their expenditure is not more than the revenue they generate through their activities -- the "break-even rule".

A UEFA report last year said that around 50 percent of top European clubs were losing money and 20 percent were producing serious deficits.

Inspired by UEFA President Michel Platini, the plan took two years to formulate. Stricter licensing rules came in last June, while the enhanced rules come into force on June 1 this year.

        THE NEW RULES

When the new rules are fully enforced, clubs will only be allowed to enter European competition if their generated revenues -- money from sources such as television rights, gate receipts, competition prize money and sponsorship -- is equal to or greater than their expenditure

Clubs are also barred from owing money to other clubs, players, tax authorities and social service departments.

        PRACTICALITIES

UEFA has set up a Club Financial Control Panel, headed by former Belgium Prime Minister Jean-Luc Dehaene, which is responsible for scrutinising clubs' accounts and enforcing the club licensing system.

The next key step comes on June 1 this year when the rule which bans clubs from owing money to other clubs, players, tax and social security departments will come into force.

The break-even requirement, banning clubs from spending more than their generated revenues, will take effect for the financial statements of the reporting period ending 2012.

The first season where a club could be barred from European competition will be 2013-14.

        EXCEPTIONS

Money invested in stadiums and youth development does not count in the expenditure for FFP purposes. The main targets are high wages and high transfer fees.

Benefactors are allowed to contribute up to a maximum of 45 million euros for the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons together.

This will be reduced to 30 million euros for the period covering 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18.
Basically what it means is that from June 1 this year club will only be allowed to spend what profits they make, although there is an allowance up to a certain amount for benefactor contributions.

It has been suggested that Liverpool paid for Carroll from their owner's (NESV) contribution and IF that is in fact true, then the Torres income could be put into the books and allow more money for the summer transfer window that what would otherwise be allowed.

Massive changes. Effectively it's a non universal salary cap.

The changes will be very interesting - I wonder if the 6 home-grown / 5 import rule will ever come in?

As for Torres....what a strange few days. As TCD has mentioned, if he wanted to go, then there's little point in holding onto him...I just hope his sale won't hurt as much as Alonso's did. The 50mil GBP is an absolute joke and I think we did well.

As for Carroll....that 35mil GBP is simply staggering, but consider the overall window picture for the Reds.

            We gain : Suarez & Carroll (22yo)

We lose : Torres (26yo injury prone wantaway) & approx $10mil GBP

Despite Fernando being my favourite player (and my wifes funnily enough ) in the end, I'll take the end result. Just spewing Carroll is still injured, as I'm sure we paid that much with a view to instant results and at least overtaking Sunderland in 6th. Suarez & Ngog doesn't excite me as much as Suarez & Carroll.

Now it's time for Joe Cole to turn up in a Red shirt.

A few loan deals too, including Konchesky - who surely hasn't been as bad as Glen Johnson (considering the flak he's copped)

Apparently there is an article in the guardian, stating this is how the new owners will be running the club.

He plans to make the club finance itself, through transfer & revenues, so it becomes compatible with the UEFA standards.

OMG! Fernando he had it all, a blonde 25 year old Striker for Liverpool! What more could anyone want? What a fool for giving up the greatest job in the world. He had a Captain who gave him the ball on a platter, now hese got a Captain who is probably trying to sleep with his wife! He has quickly become a frustrated lonely man in a Blue shirt who is second guessing himself. Monday mornings game was almost sad to watch after having such a euphoric win over the Mancs!!! Now sadly hese just another Rentboy.

Bit sad(for me anyway) seeing him run around as a shadow of his former self, his confidence is shot and his body can know longer do the things it used to. Won't be long until he's going to have some competition for the strikers spot.
