    Australia A Tour

The format of the tour is 4 one dayers, two each against Zimbabwe and SA followed by a two day game and two 4 day games against Zimbabwe.

Australia A just finished their first one day game against Zimbabwe. We made 233 for 8 from our 50, youngster Nic Maddison and Callum Ferguson were the pick of the batters with 63 and 52 respectively before we rolled them for 142 from 39 over, Hastings took 3 but the impressive Nathan Lyon was the pick of the bowlers with 4/22. Not a bad result first up

Second game done and dusted, quite a convincing win for the Aussies over SA. We made 214 from our 50, Finch was the only notable with 59 before rolling them for 154, Hastings took 4 while Butterworth and O'Keefe picked up two apiece. Its quite a strong South African batting line up on paper skippered by Jacques Rudolph who a few may remember from the 2006 series so its a decent win.

Aus A just won their third game, four wicket win over Zimbabwe, Ill get some details through when the card has been fixed, at the moment they had Wade opening the bowling so obviously needs some tweaking

Another terrific win for the Aus A boys over the Saffers. SA batted first and made an imposing 290, all the bowlers took some stick but M Marsh was the pick with 2/15 from 5. The Australia batting spluttered, lots of starts but only M Marsh and Ferguson really went on with it 72 and 66 respectively, didnt look like it was going to be enough though untill the last wicket pair of Copeland and Lyon put on 28 in 20 balls, Lyon hit a 6 off the second last ball to win the game. Great win for the guys though Maddison and Wade have come home injured, replaced by Krejza and Hughes.

Another great game for the Aussie boys, terrific win in the final and we've managed to go through the tournament undefeated. Hughes and Warner put on 206, both getting big tons in a total of 293. The bowlers looked to have the game under control as SA fell to 6/175 but recovered and going into the final over needed 15 with two wickets in hand. M Marsh held his nerve and the final over went 1,1,4,6,W,W with Australia triumphing over a strong SA outfit by two runs. Mitch Marsh took 4 and Lyon with 3 were the pick of the bowlers.

Some really encouraging performances across the series, Ferguson, Hastings and Lyon were the real standouts, M Marsh showed promise with both bat and ball while Im really liking the look of Maddison. A really valuable experience for some of these younger fellas.

I reallly like the look of Nathan Lyon. He seems to be the type of fast bowler who doesnt over analyse his game. He just runs in and bowls stump to stump and keeps the ball on a good length.

I wouldnt be suprised to see him get a test or two this summer. Of course playing for NSW helps in that regard too.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Lyon is an off spinner from SA. Who are you thinking of? Copeland?

If we are talking Copeland his record is fantastic, shouldnt be anywhere near the one day team though, he's not that type of bowler. Only concern is that hes a genuine medium pacer, tops out at about 130 but nice and accurate with a genuine out-swinger. Praveen Kumar has done okay in his debut series in the West Indies at a similar pace so maybe their is a role in the international game, will be interesting to see how he goes in England.

Actually the guy I am thinking of is Mitchell Starc.

He played for Australia A against Sri lanka A last month. He's tall and uses his height to get enough bounce off a good length to trouble batsmen. Did he play a T20 game at the start of last summer because I can remember seeing him on TV?

Seemed to do well against Zimbabwe but struggled against the Saffers, higher quality opposition seemed to play him better.
Played an ODI against the Sri Lankans for the aussie team after pretty much everyone else had fallen over and picked up four at the SCG I think. Looks a prospect but has been lucky with the amount of NSW injuries to quick men, at one point they had Copeland, Cameron, Hazelwood, Lee, Bollinger, Clark, Cummins, Cockley and Bracken floating around. In all honesty I prefer Hazelwood as a prospect, could be a wonderful player if he gets on the park.
