    2018 Australian World Cup?

The FFA says they will make a bid after the FIFA changed its rotation policy.
    Thoughts?

Waste of time and effort. They wouldn't give it to us in a pink fit. Not enough $$$$ here, not enough kids to influence here.

Sth Africa, Brasil ... Australia - no chance.

2018 will be back in Europe.

The rotation policy was to go to North America. The one after was Europe I think.

3 in a row in the southern hemisphere is a big ask. I wouldn't abandon the bid yet but I'll ask FIFA if its possible. As a fan of the game I want to see it happen.

        It just won't happen.
We don't have the stadiums, what are we going to do, extend places like Gosford and Newcastle into state of the art 50,000 seat stadiums? Plus FIFA view us a somewhat annoying child that they placate until they've had enough of us and send us to our room while they've got the important people like Europe, South America and Africa around to talk about grown up stuff. They treat us just as seriously as they have to and not a bit more. And to be honest, it's probably fair enough, we're a bit part player in the world scene and with our small population and competition with other sports will probably remain that way.

I don't expect them to play games in Gosford and Newcastle if they have only 20K stadiums. Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane will easily cater for the larger games with possible Melbourne and Sydney having 2 stadiums available. Perth, Adelaide, Canberra Hobart will have to have 40-50K stadiums.
We are talking 2018 not next year anyway. You would have though thats plenty of time to get the infrastruture right.

I'm not sure FIFA will be in love with the MCG as a potential stadium, and although TD can be made into a rectangular stadium that reduces capacity.
I know there is plenty of time to build the infrastructure, I'm just not sure that it won't be a complete waste of money.
As I stated I don't think FIFA take us at all seriously either.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have it, but I just think it's unlikely.

There has been plenty of WC finals games played on non rectangular stadiums (eg Wembley, Olympic stadium Rome), maybe not as big as the G but the prospect of 100K stadium that is steep in sporting history should be very attractive to FIFA.
I'd say its more a problem making the grounds available in the June/July period of a WC.
Agree with FIFA may not take us seriously. Bribbery is required?

With FIFA, bribery is considered a given.

Its not worse than AFL bribery.

Would love to see this happen, but there are many more hurdles facing us compared to other nations bidding for the 2018 Cup.

We currently have the MCG, Telstra Dome/Stadium and Suncorp as grounds which meet FIFA's standards, however we would have 10 years to fix up/build the rest.

The major hurdle I see would be the AFL allowing a rival code to take over it's grounds in the middle of the AFL season.

To be able to see the greatest sporting event in the world in my home town would be amazing, however FIFA hate us and can't make any money out of us, I imagine they will go elsewhere

I think England are bidding as well.

FIFA don't hate us, just don't think much about us.

Even after our last campaign? Surely we have risen in the worlds eyes, at least a little.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

FIFA don't give a flying about the MCG's history. The World Cup 2018 will go to somewhere in Europe as it will have been 12 years since the WC was in Europe. No point bidding. Better off bidding for the 2022 WC than the 2018.

Not a chance....realistically we didn't do that good. Sure we got out of the group stage, but we then got knocked out in the last 16. Sure the penalty was dodgy, but hey we had 40 minutes of playing with a man up and didn't have a shot let alone score. Our real chance to show that it wasn't all a flash in the pan was to do well in the Asian Cup.....in that we barely got out of the group stage against world soccer powers like Thailand and Iraq!
