Davis Cup World Group Playoff - Australia vs Switzerland

The tie is at 1-1 going into day 2.

Bernard Tomic with a good 4 set win against the underrated Stanislas Wawrinka, Lleyton Hewitt down in 4 to The Master.

Tomorrow sees Hewitt pair up with Chris Guccione to take on Federer and Wawrinka, who are Olympic Gold Medallists.

Its a must win match. Defeat here means that Tomic would have to beat Federer and Hewitt must beat Wawrinka if Australia are to return to the Elite World Group.

Caught some of it while procrastinating trying to finish off a piece today. Pretty good stuff from all 4 players. Can't believe two former world no.1s (and legends in their own right) are playing off in a World Group qualifying game!

I think its rare for a nation like Switzerland to have two such quality Tennis Players, particularly when one is a once in a lifetime talent.

When Martina and Fed were both at the top of their games, they had TWO once in a lifetime players at no.1.

          I stand corrected.

Hingis was a truly prodigious talent, who simply fell out of love with the game.

I suppose when you're named after a tennis champion and steered towards Tennis as much as Hingis was you're always going to be under pressure to do well.

Australia is on the brink of defeat, with Wawrinka leading Hewitt 5-3 in the 5th set in the deciding rubber when play was suspended due to bad light. Hewitt will have to hold serve first up and then break Wawrinka.

Pat Rafter with two big blowups with the officials. You know there's something amiss when Rafter has a run in with the umpire. Not something he was noted for during his career.

Great effort by Tomic to pinch a set of Federer.

If he can't get up I can see this being Hewitt's last match in Davis Cup. At 30 years old now I'm not sure his body will hold up. Should he do the remarkable and pull off a win I can see him having one last Davis Cup campaign next year
