Re: The worst penalty kick?
The first one is the worst. Tried to be a smart arse, and not only failed completely (I'm not even sure his kick was intentional), but got a yellow card to add to the humiliation.
BTW is the Juventis Aston Villa clash in an empty stadium?I should leave it alone but you're not rightComment

Re: The worst penalty kick?
Bloody funny stuff. The commentator in the Del Piero clip was funnier than the penalty itself. I actually laughed for half a minute after seeing the second one.
ps. It's amazing how many 'worst kick, worst keeper, worst whatever' clips are out of the middle eastern leagues. I saw a goalkeeping clip the other day that would make any coach weep.Comment

That's what I thought too. Over the last couple of years it seems that a lot of players feign kicking the ball in one direction only to pivot and send the ball the other way. It seemed to start at the last World Cup I reckon.
Speaking of bad misses why isnt Gyan's smacking the ball into the crossbar in the World Cup quarter final in 2010 on the list above? They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.Comment

Re: The worst penalty kick?
You're not allowed to completely stop but you are allowed to slow right down as long as you are still moving forward. There's obviously a fuzzy area when you slow down so much that you either appear to stop or stop for the slightest moment in time, somewhat like cars at stop signs, most don't technically stop, they just slow to a very low speed and then accelerate through.Comment

Re: The worst penalty kick?
No question.
Over the weekend in China there was a player who was publicly berated by his coach on the sideline after the match for failing to score an own goal in the last minute. This wasn't for the lack of trying, mind you, he tried to innocuously "accidentally" chip his own keeper but the ball hit the bar and bounced out. It was because they were 4-0 up but were trying to get a three goal margin for betting purposes. The scary part is how blatant it is now, people aren't even really trying to hide it anymore.
Any discussion of crappy national teams in soccer mad countries has to start with an honest look at match fixing.Comment
