Tim Paine - Could he be the unlucky one?

Wicketkeeping is a hard job and there is a lot of stories about fine wicketkeepers here in Australia that never really got the chance to represent Australia beyond some token experiences.

12 months back Tim Paine was a near certainty to replace Brad Haddin. His keeping was improving and his batting getting stronger. He had moved into the limited over versions of the game for Australia and was a prominent member of the Tassie team. He was even touted as future captain of Australia.

He's been struggling with an injury for a while now and right at the moment when some serious questions are being asked about Brad Haddins viability beyond the tour of South Africa the next in line Matthew Wade is setting a cracking pace especially with his batting.

If the move is made on Haddin at the end of this series, Paine might have to get in line again this time behind a much younger wicket keeper.

It's a tough life wearing the gloves in Australian cricket.

The point is the understudy for so long is a fair chance to be overlooked.

I think he is, and on current form reasonably so. Wicket keeping does tend to be one of the few roles in cricket where a player is groomed for a role rather than picked on form. But Paine has been struggling since that Mickey Mouse t20 game and Wade's form has been very strong.

I think Paine would be unlucky, given he has been the understudy but needs to get into some form. Either way, I think Haddin must go and one of Wade or Paine made the new Australian keeper.

Matty Wade skulls up again- you cannot deny his form, it has been sensational for the last month. He should be keeping for Australia come the first test this summer.

Wade should be keeping for Australia this coming test against the Saffras. It's embarassing that Haddin is still in a baggy green.

Paine can only count himself unlucky in the sense that the previous selection regime didn't have the balls to actually pick the better gloveman and instead chose to play favourites, but in that sense he's no more unlucky than a whole host of Test calibre players that never got a fair shot due to favouritism.

Paine will get the gig. Wade is a sook.
