Wicketkeeping is a hard job and there is a lot of stories about fine wicketkeepers here in Australia that never really got the chance to represent Australia beyond some token experiences.
12 months back Tim Paine was a near certainty to replace Brad Haddin. His keeping was improving and his batting getting stronger. He had moved into the limited over versions of the game for Australia and was a prominent member of the Tassie team. He was even touted as future captain of Australia.
He's been struggling with an injury for a while now and right at the moment when some serious questions are being asked about Brad Haddins viability beyond the tour of South Africa the next in line Matthew Wade is setting a cracking pace especially with his batting.
If the move is made on Haddin at the end of this series, Paine might have to get in line again this time behind a much younger wicket keeper.
It's a tough life wearing the gloves in Australian cricket.
