    EPL Another Manager Sacked

Chris Hutchings is the 4th Manager sacked already this season. Hutchings (Wigan) follows Sammy Lee (Bolton), Martin Jol (Spurs) & The Special One (Chelsea).

Are Chairmen too eager for success that at the first hint of trouble they panic & sack the manager? By doing that, is it then really a reflection that the Chairman got it wrong in the first instance? Is it only the amount of money the Chairman tips in what keeps them there?

In the case of Wigan I think they had too. They are a real chance of going down this year and their results were very ordinary! Now Spurs haven't been great, but they have a good enough squad so that they are unlikely to go down especially as the season gets tough and heads into the Winter months. Wigan don't have that luxury and as the season goes on they have injury problems etc then their chnces of slipping into and getting stuck in a relegation dogfight increase.

Relegation is the beauty of Soccer! There is a serious penalty for finishing last and its effectively the prospect of not being in the top division the next season! Solves the tanking for draft picks problem.

Ok, I accept the argument with Wigan. But doesn't Dave Whelan escape lightly here seeing as it was his decision to appoint Chris Hutchings? Because he's tipped bucketloads of money in, then errs with this appointment, all he has to do is sack the manager. Doesn't sit too well with me.

I still remember Doug Ellis hiring & firing left, right & centre whilst in the chair as Aston Villa.

Yeah, but many clubs in the Uk are privately owned so I guess its the chairman's perogatove to hire and fire. using Spurs as an example, since 2002 we have had as managers - George graham, Glen Hoddle, David Pleat, Santini, Jol and now Juande De Ramos....the Chairman through that period has been one Mr Danial Levy. Its the sad reality of football as opposed to AFL!

Many football clubs are like this, Crystal Palace have just appointed their 8th manger in 7 years, all have been hired and fired by our chairman Simon Jordan.

Success is demanded especially in the top 2 divisions, as clubs in the Championship can see the lure of playing the big boys in the Premiership (as well as the 30m+ they get from the TV rights) While all the Premiership want to stay there for the same reasons. The money is far too attractive and Chairman want a quick return on their investment.

Another one bites the dust. Fulham & Lawrie Sanchez part company this time.

So far this season the following club/managers have gone their separate ways.

            Birmingham City - Steve Bruce
            Bolton Wanderers - Sammy Lee
            Chelsea - Jose Murhino
            Derby County - Billy Davies
            Fulham - Lawrie Sanchez
            Tottenham Hotspurs - Martin Jol
            Wigan Athletic - Chris Hutchings

7 out of 20 & it's not even reached the half way point of the season.

Chelsea - Jose Murhino Had to be done.
Derby County - Billy Davies Stupidest decision of the season.
Fulham - Lawrie Sanchez Can't understand it, they are crap.
Tottenham Hotspurs - Martin Jol chairmen is a wanker.
Wigan Athletic - Chris Hutchings Had to try something.

                Re: Steve Bruce & Birmingham/Wigan.

The Brummies had been dithering for an eternity about private ownwership with Carson Yueng to be the he majority shareholder. He was not a huge Steve Bruce fan & the feeling was Bruce would have been sacked swiftly.

Wigan then sacked their manager & tried to entice Paul Jewel back, he declined feeling he'd done as much as he could with Wigan.

They then offered Steve Bruce the security of a 3 year deal, which he'd been seeking at Birmingham & they couldn't/wouldn't commit to. That's why he left.

Does anyone know the out come of the Harry Rednapp affair, i think it was to do with gambling or poaching players. He is still manager of Pompey, which as far as that goes im very happy.Maybe another manager on the way out, but not an owners decision im sure!

Yep, Harry is still Pompey's manager. The affair has gone all quiet so nothing really to report. It did however cost him the England manager's job!

                        Thank goodness for that Fredi!

It's looking increasingly likely that another manager will be sacked soonish. Big Fat Sam is surely on his last legs.

Thanks Mantis, I bet the Geordies will be baying for Alan Shearer to manage them.

They certainly have been!! As soon as Big Sam "resigned", the pundits were saying that Shearer would be the next manager.......fact is he has turned them down. Early favourites are Harry Rednapp, Morinho (gets linked to every club), Jol and Jurgen Klingsman.

On Big Sam's demise, I have to say that he only has himself to blame really. Get a team like Bolton to the UEFA Cup and then dumps them once the hard work is really done for a perrenial Premiership bridesmaid. Yep probably got paid a lot more, but Big Sam is an honest battler of a manager, better at getting the best out of average players than out of high profile primadonnas.
