What a phenomenal start to a career by Pattinson. 3 wickets already with India 4 for 72.

Re: 2ND Test v's India.
Decent batting track and India have gone to water yet again away from home. Has a more pampered and spineless bunch of cricketers ever existed considering their undeniable talent levels? In a cricket obsessed nation of 1.2 billion people, they can't even find 11 players who will scrap and scrounge and make the opposition's life as difficult as possible. Everything wrong with Indian cricket can be encapsulated in the 5 minutes before tea when they summoned the drinks waiter to waste as much time as possible just before the tea interval. Of course their ball-by-ball concentration levels were not on the job and they lost 2 quick wickets.

Re: 2ND Test v's India.
Mentioned today that their much vaunted ageing stars didn't want DRS.
The little master in particular! The bowling is fuller than the short rubbish we dished up last summer. Siddle is in career best form and Pattinson has been a revelation, along with a Fit Hilfenhaus. Hmmmmm now for the battingComment

Re: 2ND Test v's India.
What would you do if you were the Indian Coach Sedat?
I'd be chuffed about the bowling if my outright apprehension about our batting didn't trouble me.

Re: 2ND Test v's India.
How many balls did Marsh last this time? I'll stop lest I be accused of being a broken record, but surely I'm not the only person who can see that he's not Test level, much less a no.3.
Must be in the running for worst Australian no.3 in history.Comment

Re: 2ND Test v's India.
What a day of cricket, and it isn't even over yet.
Cowan another example of why the DRS should be mandatory. We're really going to need to pull our fingers out and post a competitive score - it looks like we may struggle to do so.Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?Comment

I still don't understand why we keep throwing in the kids at #3.
If we are going to persist with the older crew than they need to take the responsibility.Comment

Re: 2ND Test v's India.
I like the DRS (have had strong debates on WOOF with EJ Smith) but that Cowan dismissal probably makes the case AGAINST the DRS -- a decision like that with tiny margins, where even the Channel 9 guys have to come up with computer models with computer generated rulers to 'prove' the margin of milimetres, makes a mockery of the role of the umpires. A decision like that was a marginal LBW call, which has always been the domain of an umpire. It's not like it hit an inside edge, or was missing by a long way.. unhappy with Hussey's dismissal in the first innings in Melbourne (although Mr. Cricket evened up the score by surviving 4 clear outs in the 2nd innings), but that Cowan LBW wasn't a horrendous call, and not one that technology should be allowed to over-rule (otherwise we may as well get rid of umpires altogether).Comment

Re: 2ND Test v's India.
For an argument for Shield form vs. picking 'golden boys' with no records, simply see Cowan or Siddle vs. a Marsh (or a Warner, for that matter).
Thank God for our fantastic pace battery and the Indians refusing to come earlier to Australia to get their eye and technique in. I would have thought that this being the one tour they've never ever won they would want to get it right at least once before their golden generation retires. Well, another stupid decision by the Indian board.
ps. For my other hobby horse, for anyone who's watched the whole game, any comments on Haddin's hilarious keeping? He's catching the dollies, but the funniest one was a straightforward missed shot by Tendulkar that Haddin dropped at head height to give away a bye. Comical stuff at Test level.. I can't believe this is the same position that incredible glovemen like Healy and Marsh used to call their own. I guess India's comical outfielding evens it out.
pps. Finally, am I the only one who finds the Vodafone ad with the voiceover that says something like "Australian players don't play for themselves.. blah blah blah" ironic? I can't think of any more selfish Test players than our oldies who refuse to move on or our vice-captain wicketkeeper who has thrown away his wicket when when a stoic stand was required at least 5 times over the last 12 months. I think that ad is the precise definition of 'talk is cheap'.. hey, that should be Vodafone's tagline!Comment

Re: 2ND Test v's India.
They showed just how benign the pitch really is. Would not surprise me in the slightest to see both get centuries tomorrow and the Aussies get a lead of 200+ on the 1st innings."Look at me mate. Look at me. I'm flyin'"Comment

Re: 2ND Test v's India.
Great effort by the quicks; when things are going your way you have to cash in, and they did. India's batsman to me look like they are playing like a tired team. Siddle and Hilfenhaus have picked up yards of pace, and their bowling discipline is much stronger than the crap served up last summer.
Warner was on the move when he snicked his, Marsh did not have to play at it, especially first ball you face, and Cowans I did not see. 5 out of our 6 battting spots (Clarke being the exception) really are up in the air in terms of ability and/or pending retirement. We are in a strange place; great bowling stocks when all fit, and massive question martks over most of our Batsmen and keeper. Not sure on the spinner yet, but he appears to be the best we have and I am happy to give him a few series.Comment
