    Sachin Tendulkar reaches 100 centuries.

Sachin Tendulkar says I'm not God, I'm Sachin

Thank god he finally got there.

    And retained his humility throughout.

True to their recent form the team gets rolled by Bangladesh, but for now lets take a moment just to appreciate what Sachin has accomplished.

Just out of interest, here's who he has scored his centuries against, Test - ODI - Total. At least he hasn't 'beaten up on the bunny teams'

    1 Australia 11 9 20
    2 Sri Lanka 9 8 17
    3 South Africa 7 5 12
    4 England 7 2 9
    5 New Zealand 4 5 9
    6 Zimbabwe 3 5 8
    7 West Indies 3 4 7
    8 Pakistan 2 5 7
    9 Bangladesh 5 1 6
    10 Kenya N/A 4 4
    11 Namibia N/A 1 1
    Total 51 49 100

He's a brilliant batsman and I think it's great that he got there.

I agree he is a great batsmen but from those figures he has 19 centuries from bunny sides. 81 still pretty good. He has also batted on a lot of flat roads in the sub continent.

So where do you rate him as the one better batsman we have seen?

Equal with Lara and Ponting, Impossible to split them IMO.

Viv was the best batsmen in my opinion that I have ever seen. Lara, Ponting and Sachin, not much between them.

Clive Lloyd has often been asked, where are the double and triple centuries (when asked about Viv's greatness) - Lloyd would answer, wasn't necessary when they were playing. (meaning they thrashed all comers).

I'd probably rate him higher than those with Viv Richards in there too with Lara.
Really difficult to rate different eras, believe Greg Chappell and Viv had a lot better bowlers to face and rarely played against the minnows. There is possibly the argument the pitches were worse as well.

                  Fair arguments.

I suppose the only thing Sachin had that Chappell and Viv (and Lara and Ponting for that matter) didn't have was one billion people watching and following your every move with baited breath. You talk about carrying a nation on your shoulders, try doing it with the second most populous nation in the world.

And through it all he's remained an absolute gentleman of the game. Has never been a whinger or agenda pusher and has always carried himself well both on and off the field.

My take on it is that in the two decades or so I've followed cricket, he is:
                  A) The best I've ever seen
                  B) Has been so for such a long and consistent period.

Re: Sachin Tendulkar reaches 100 centuries.

Sachin is the most consistent batsman with the best technique I've seen in my time.

Lara - best eye. When he was in, he was in.
                    Viv - most destructive
Ponting - best fighter (with S.Waugh)
                    Kallis - best accumulator
Sangakarra - most stylish (with M.Waugh.. didn't see enough of Sobers but by all accounts he was as elegant as they came)
Dravid - best defence (until this last year! I guess Boycott figures in this 'best defence' discussion somewhere)

                    ---

Of course, all these great batsmen can be all of these things (and have been) throughout their careers, but I think they displayed different aspects of the batting art. It's hard to say who's the 'best' as they've all had ups and downs throughout their careers, but Sachin is clearly in the mix with all these other players in the very top echelon of all time, just below (probably) the likes of the Don, and just above the Gavaskars, Hadlees, Crowes, Flowers, Pietersens, Borders, (and the Waughs and Sangakarra probably belong to this slightly lower level as well) etc. of this world.

                      Best Batsmen
I.V.A Richards ( Ponting best Aussie)
                      Best Bowler D. K Lillee
Sachin is a true great, but the Indians hero worship instead of worrying about results.
They actually lost to The Bangers.

Viv was the most entertaining. Spellbound as a kid.

Agree with that. Personally I dont rate Lara as being in the top echelon of batsmen Ive seen. Tendulkar is no 1 with Ponting so close you couldnt get a cigarette paper between them. Then Richards and G. Chappell

Lara comes after them due to the fact he had no technique to fall back on so when his eye went he didnt have the footwork to remain a top class batsman.

As for batsmen I'd happily sit and watch for the rest of my life. G. Chappell, M. Waugh, Mahjid Khan, and Inzamam ul haq always had heaps of time.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.
