Not a great series to leave on from punters point of view.

AUS 3/119. All over for Ricky Ponting. Now to develop the next great cricketer to take his place. Unless it rains or we stay in batting for the whole 2 days we are going to lose.

Cowan's dismissal - very disappointing. Was super important to have him play the anchor role all day.
The way he went out was really really ordinary....set up nicely by Steyn, but subtle as a sledgehammer tactics. Ed should have been much better than that.

Hopefully Clarke and Hussey can do well and get a high score and keep us in the match for as long as they can.

His 50 has just saved him IMO.

I am up for the hard nosed opener but you need to either need: abilty to score freely or consistently be able to stay in for ages. Cowan has neither atm. I've said it early in this thread, really reeks of a mid 30s average test bat to me. I hope I am wrong as I like his character. If he fails twice next test I would drop him.

Clarke really looking good in there and really going for the big shots.

Nice 'big' shot to get out.

Disappointing dismissal by the sounds - apparently Clarke was nearly caught on the charge against Peterson a couple of overs earlier. Playing your natural game is fine but there needs to be large chunks of circumspect batting when trying to save a match as well. Peterson isn't exactly Warne.

It's always a risk playing those big shots. Looks like South Africa will wrap up the series today.

Pretty disappointing display, and lack of fight to be truthful.

Well done to Mitchell Starc on bringing up 50. That is the 2nd fastest 50 in Australian cricket and 14th fastest 50 in test cricket.

So who replaces Ponting? Khawaja, Hughes or Bailey?

Khawaja for mine. Good season so far on some dodgy wickets too.

Crash Craddock today said it was apparently a battle of 3 between Hughes, Khawaja and Doolan. I'd have Hughes back and batting at 3, Watson to 4.

What about Watson to six? Hussey and Clarke shuffle up one spot.
