Australia lost the toss but have Sri Lanka 3 for 79 at lunch.

Another wicket to Bird but the over rate is terrible. I can see Lyon being given a longer spell that he might have otherwise earned.

Might be time for CA to swallow their pride(and stop being selfish) and let SA host us every four years on Boxing day as SA should still be here and playing today.

Highly doubt that will happen . Boxing Day is a big cash cow for c/a.
Great exhibition of pie throwing from Mitch Johnson.

Which is sad as Boxing day isn't what it should be in terms of quality.

Can't believe Starc cant play more than two games in a row... Good spread of wickets, although Johnson still bleeds runs while Bird looked good.

Test cricket really highlights the weaknesses of the 2nd/3rd tier nations. A good example are the tailenders. A bit old school in how they 'value' their wickets. Just swing the bat or use it to protect their body. That being said, their 'specialist batsmen' did the same.

I love test cricket but it really doesn't suit 'inter-tier' matches.

For mine, even if we dominate, I will still have the same doubts on how we will go against the top sides. Johnson and Starc are good examples. Can bowl garbage for vast majority of their spells and still grab a few wickets with their jaffers. Against the top sides they will be punished more so and their jaffers will be mostly kept out.

Bird's acton is so fluid. Makes Johnson look like an athlete who has just found out about bowling.

I don't know if Johnson is the best bad bowler or the worst good bowler going around?

He bowls some absolute dross but is capable of producing better balls than most.

Bird looks really good. His first wicket was a gem.

Love watching Warner when he is in this mood. Great 100m six to go to 49.

Loving Bill Lawrys commenting. "That's just rubbish" ( a few times now) referring to the lankans bowling. Love the brutal honesty.

I often wonder how Cowan would be viewed if he wasn't paired with a thrashing and scoring machine?

Warner just threw it away... Getting to be almost a habit now. That's three innings past 50 through 70 where he has given it away. Frustrating....

Perhaps you could say the same about Warner?

That innings was so typically Warner. I think he is a good test bat but the fine line between being aggressive/inane is holding him back from anything greater.

Seems we have to take his dismissals and accept them. Just wish he would convert more good starts into 100s. I see him in the vein of Sehwag which can be hit or miss, but Sehwag converts more often. Still if he makes 40 to 70 and get the opening partnership to 80 or 90, I guess that's ok.
