Michael Hussey to retire from international cricket

Will be missed but has done the right thing. Will be 38 next year, so time for a change.
His form has been brilliant and he might even captain the next test match. I guess Watson will now be needed in the Indian and Ashes tours and might even slide down the order to number 6.
Khawaja will most likely replace him but bat at 4.

Watson is always needed but you just cant count on the man.

Leaves a big hole. Happy for him that he has retired in form than held on for too long ala Ponting.

Great career, his name sits comfortably along side the Mark Waughs, Justin Langers and Damien Martyns on the list of modern greats. Its going to be a huge hole to fill, that batting lineup to go to India and then England may be one of the most inexperienced we have ever turned out. Winning back the urn will be a monumental task from here.

I'm shocked like everyone else. Could this be linked into the Maxwell selection? Wade goes to 6 with Maxwell at 7?
Wade's batting isn't that of a number 6 and given his keeping isn't 100% either should we be flirting with the notion of asking him to bat higher up the order? We pretty much resisted this with Gilchrist because we thought it might have a negative result with his glove work.
If we have a bowling all-rounder then number 8 is a nice spot for him and if he is a batting all-rounder then number 6 is the right position for him.
To me Maxwell has to bat at 6 and I wonder what attributes, other than confidence, he is displaying to make the selectors think it will work better than say Cameron White a few years back? Is he a better bat that White was?

Cameron has the ability to bat at number 6 (when his form is okay) at test level and send down a few David Warner type overs...the problem was the selectors batted him at 8 and made him the primary spinner. Glenn isn't in the same class, at least not yet. Maxwell is the luckiest batsman I've seen in a long time, he's made runs but there are a lot of cross bat hoiks and edges through slips. How he has accrued an average above 40 is a bit beyond me. I cant see his bowling penetrating at test level, floaty offies that don't do much, the Indians will eat it for breakfast.
Looks like they want to find the next Roy Symonds, people forget how Andrew dominated state attacks for years before finally winning a cap. Even Steve Smith earned a cap in comparison to what Maxwell has had to do...if he was a New South Welshman we wouldn't hear the end of it.

Agree with everything except this part. Smith did nothing before being selected, nothing when selected and has done nothing since being dropped.
The obession with an all rounder baffles me at times. If we dont have a good one, dont play one.
Steve Smiths first full domestic season netted him an average of 77 with the bat and four tons while with the ball he showed some potential, including a 7/44 against South Australia (although not enough to justify the role he was picked for against Pakistan). Both he and Maxwell were selected at similar career points at it is plainly obvious who was the more impressive.
