    Tomic is a knob!

Unlike the majority of the Aussie winning lemmings - known as the general public - I along with Pat Rafter think he's a knob. Why does the public forgive him when he wins. Win or not, he's still a bratty, annoying, mouthy knob. I can't stand him and I can't stand this new public love affair with him. It makes me sick.

    Knob. Knob. Knob!!!!

Yeah I definitely am not with the 'go for anyone who plays for Australia' brigade. That being said, we aren't alone mate. I think a lot of Australians dislike him.

Spot on . He's 19 years old for crying out loud.
Tend to recall a petulant brat from Adelaide at the same age.
            Hopefully he does grow up

Tennis has a tendency towards this sort of behavior from young stars, which is why it's so refreshing to see young humble players come through the ranks.

On the one hand, with them not playing an elite team sport I can see how this can happen. Young players within Australia's system are indulged due to its parlous state, and the Australian public as much as they adore sport really do need a star to follow when the Australian Open comes along to maintain interest. They also have entourages set up to ensure they are performing at their best in a highly competitve environment, which entails maintaining a high level of confidence and arrogance in the subject.

The commercial networks are aware of this, and when it suits them people like Hewitt, Philipousis and Tomic have positive stories spun in their favour. When it doesn't suit their interests, they're happy to sink the boots in.

It's such a great sport when it's at its purest. Because of the ordinary state of the game in this country a dramatic narrative needs to accompany the sport. For me, that's a terrible shame.

BTW, I think the guy needs to mature, pull his head in and realise his talent. Otherwise he'll end up bankrupt holding a talent that is unfulfilled.

What public love affair? The majority of the general public can't stand him - I don't think you're Robinson Crusoe on this one.

Unfortunately the kid has been labelled Australia's next tennis great since he was 10 years old - and has a very abnormal upbringing as a result. I think this is a huge contributor to him coming across as unlikable....that and his Dad's influence.

I hope he realises his potential and matures over the next few years to become his own man.

I have never really got why so many people dislike Hewitt. He gives everything he has when he's on the court and never gives up. It seems to me that he has extracted the absolute maximum out of his talent. I find these attributes to be admired, not unlike that little Libba bloke that used to play for us.

Tomic on the other hand has all the talent in the world but when the going get tough he gives up. Yes he's still young and hopefully he will mature quickly. Had to laugh when he was interviewed after he beat Djokovic in the Hopman cup and said "full credit to myself".

PS Not that it makes much difference but Tomic is actually 20.

Looking forward to not seeing one single point of Tennis on the TV again this summer.

And yes, Tomic is a Knob.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who thinks he's a knob, despite the media's new found love affair simply because he's Australian and winning.
