Warne and Chappelli vs Buchanan

Whats everyones take on this?
Is Warnie just trying to add some hard nut credibility to his journalistic duties or is it just sour grapes and evening up the score with someone he didn't see eye to eye with?
This might be the cynic in me but is Chappelli buying into this because his Channel Nine mate needs a bit of support?

I would have thought that the coaches position is very much required and yet these two seem to think it was more of a hindrance than help.

Ian Chappell has always said that he never rates the role of a coach.

I do get the feeling in this instance it is personal, for whatever reason.

I would think that would have some merit. Warne much as I like him at times I can't stand his arrogant nature. Now that he is out of the 'cricket playing scene' everyone is fair game to him, Chappelli would be standing by him.

I'm sure it's the clique of C9 sticking up for each other. They covered for Warnie with the can't bat, can't bowl rubbish and now they are supporting one of their assets again now that he has mouthed off. I'll listen to what Benaud says but Warnie has yet to prove to me that he is anything more than a highly talented spinner who is trying to make money now that he has retired and evening up old scores in the process.
Chappelli had some credibility but has now lost it.

Would Warnie take Tendulkar or Lara to task? They are mates of his so of course not but Gilly and Buchanan aren't and they are now right in the firing line.

I don't recall him ever slagging off Bobby Simpson or criticising his coaching tenoure, and Australia certainly didn't have as much success as they did when Buchanan was at the helm. I think you might be right TCD.

FWIW I do rate the role of the Coach for a national team. You could put forward the argument that a group of players like that don't need coaching but look at Roger Federer, would he have won as many Grand Slams as he did without Tony Roche's mentoring? He still would have won a few but I doubt it would've been as many.

What about the involvement of Gilly now too? It seems a lot of past players are taking swipes at the way things are being done, or have been done in recent times.

It would appear that Gilly and Warne were not close. Warne has has made a few remarks about moving Gilly on in the shorter versions of the game. In some ways that might be a good idea but it breaks the code that most of the ex players follow.
Gilly is also sticking up for the ex coach which won't sit well with Warne.
I'd be surprised if this is over.

As much as Warnie probably found the media spotlight invasive at times, he still thinks of himself as a star and doesn't know what to do without it. He was always going to be one to leave and shoot his mouth off.

I get the feeling Buchannon would not gel with the old style cricketers and he was happy to challenge Warnie, and to Warnes credit he always produced.
