Still our best batsman by far. I reckon his back is preventing him from getting into better position for the short rising ball. He never had too many problems with the short stuff earlier in his career. Broad has cleverly seized on this uncertainty and has really given him a working over this year.

Ok, forgot about that but pardon me for missing it when he made:

      0 & 27

      28 & 51

      187 & 30

      6 & 21

      7 & 28

Yes I am pulling out that old chestnut because we have a weak team and we have no one to come in and save the day. Clarke is capable of doing that but he seemingly never does.

I am unfair to him in such a weak team, but gee its disappointing.

Its going to be another long summer. (happy to eat my words by ends of the series)

He only has 5 centuries of his 24 against England.

Seemingly never does it? He did it for nearly 2 straight years and is now clearly injured.

Forgive me guys but I'm on Warner for high bat so hoping for no one to score many runs from here

If you're going to pull out that old chestnut how about getting it right

          0 & 27

          28 & 51

          187 & 30 not out

          6 & 21

          7 & 28 not out

          381 runs @ 47.62

He declared twice when he was in position to make another big score. If he's our problem then we shouldn't have lost a game.

I was thinking the same thing. You don't suddenly get found out after 98 Tests that you can't play the short ball. It's usually age or injury related, and Clarke's not that old.

Didn't say he is our problem, I said I expect more from him being our best bat.

Ok, lets look at it another way. The last 6 ashes first innings he has made, 0, 28, 187, 6, 7, and 1 today. Hardly a great record besides the one big score that helps distort his averages.

As I said, against England only 5/24 centuries. If he is injured, he shouldn't play.

It's amazing when Clarke was slaying them a few years ago, you couldn't get anyone praising him on here.
As soon as he fails ..
The guy is clearly hampered, and the crap being trotted out by ex players and current players is a constant source of embarrassment . Honestly, if the series was a battle of the gob we 'd win 5 nil.

Haddin and Johnson showing the top order just how benign this pitch really is. If we can eke out another 150-odd runs it will be a par 1st innings score.

Johnson scoring runs usually gives him confidence with the cherry.

So only 20+% of his centuries against England. He has probably played them in 20% of his test matches.

Thinking back is there a series since Clarke became captain he wasn't our leading run getter? Perhaps Sri Lanka?

The ashes is where it counts.

Don't get me wrong, I am a fan of Clarke, I am just disappointed he has been going out cheaply when we need him.

Had our highest average and the second highest in the series it turns out. Watson scored more but averaged 41 to Clarkes' 48

48 is inflated due to one good innings of 187 and a couple of not outs of 28 and 30 in the second innings. Have a look at his last 6 ashes tests and the first innings. ( 0, 28, 187, 6, 7, and 1)

If you are happy with that good luck because I am not.
