    Glenn Maxwell

Is anyone here a fan of Glenn Maxwell and think he can eventually make it as a test cricketer?

He is a decent but an attacking batsman and a handy off spin bowler plus he is an excellent fieldsman. The problem is I don't think he is strong enough as a batsman to make it in the top 6.

He should thrive in the limited over versions of the game but I wonder if he can make the transition to test cricket.

    Thoughts?

Only averaging 35 in first class cricket. Still only 25 but has a long way to go

          George Bailey averages 38.

Maxwell has some serious talent.. Might take a couple of years to develop, but I think he can make it as a test player if given the opportunity.

Agree on Bailey, but Maxwell like Finch has done nothing in first class cricket.
Big test for Bailey will be when the ball hoops around a bit.
Maxwell hasn't the technique for test cricket

I agree that Maxwell has talent, but I think like so many of the modern day players, a well paying career is on offer without him ever needing to find the decipline to be a proper Test cricketer.

Warner was in the same boat but he seems to have made a decision that short form cricket is not enough. Maybe Maxwell will be similar.

I think he has the technique and footwork for test cricket. It's a matter of developing his mental side in order for him to learn how to concerntrate and spend long amounts of time at the crease.

Yep. Hopefully he'll come to realise that there's more things to life than earning easy money playing hit and giggle cricket. Having a successful test career is one of those things and will still provide him with plenty of financial rewards.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Yep. Under the terrible shot selection and gigantic ego are some pretty solid fundamentals. I think the bizarre fixation with having to have an all rounder in the side will see Maxwell gifted a few games, hopefully he will use these to adapt to first class cricket.

Or maybe he just likes making stacks. In that case he should just work on his reverse sweep and his post innings interviews.

Could do with some work on his celebrations too.

Glenn Maxwell as the meta t20 cricketer is pretty much everything I dream Jake Stringer evolves into as a footballer.

Not sure I see it to be honest. Watched him net outside the MCG one day during a Shield game and what was on display didn't scream test cricketer. You watch Warner and you can see the overlap technically, he is very solid, Maxwell I'm not sure has the same base

I will give Maxwell some credits for his batting and bowling performances of late. I think he has come a long way in a short period. I never thought he had much of a chance to make it as a test cricketer but a strong start to next season might make it hard for the selectors to ignore him.

Needs to bat at 5 or 6 for the Vics
