BBC sport on Twitter are saying Swann has retired from international cricket.
    I can't find a 2nd source yet confirming this

Other sources are now following that report.

I wonder if he was informed that he wouldn't be selected for the boxing day test.

Not surprised by this, in fact I suggested before the Perth Test that one of Swann or Prior would retire/go home with a stress related illness should they cop another hammering. This England team have proven themselves to be downhill skiers, when it's gotten tough they can't get out of there quickly enough.

        Good call.

It's a good thing for them that they have unearthed a couple of players this tour.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Intestinal fortitude is seriously lacking in this squad.

Reckon Swann got the proverbial tap on the shoulder and was given the opportunity to 'retire on his terms'.

This England team reeks of a poorly-prepared, self-satisfied outfit that has not come anywhere near prepared to toil hard for success. They have been appalling as a collective unit.

Was quite hilarious seeing Broad limp around like his world had ended finding a net to have a hit in to see if his BRUISED foot was stable enough to walk out for his country.

Reckon I'd prefer to be dropped and stay with the squad, then retire at the end of the tour. Now everyone thinks, rightly or wrongly, Swann is a quitter who can't hack losing.

I'm tipping I have a much better understanding than you, and it's more likely you who is misunderstanding the situation. FWIW my stepmother is a psychologist whose specialty was sports and who travelled the world on one of the tours. Mental illness in sport is about as overdiagnosed as ADHD is in low socioeconomic towns, just get enough opinions till you get the one you're looking for.

Now please stop derailing the thread.

He's alluded to that being the case, but you have to question how he could comfortably play 5 tests and the ODI's 4 months ago, and then front up to the first 3 here before it became to much to manage. I'd bet if he had 20 wickets and England were 3-0 up it wouldn't be causing him as many problems.

I think he just wanted to bail on a tour that's not much fun and to hell with his team mates.
