Tait and our dwindling pace blowling stocks

I see Tait has announced that he needs a spell from the game at both the state and national level (perhaps even at the club level) to get his fitness and mind right. I guess he has been doing it very tough both on and off the park. I obviously wish him a speedy recovery.

It does beg the question of how well placed we are for pace bowlers.
Hilfenhaus has slipped back a fair bit, Tait hasn't quiet measured up, the Vics can't get a decent quick to play three consecutive games and the WA quicks are too inconsistent for mine.

I suppose this leaves us to look at just Noffke and Bracken for back-up pace bowlers for the tour to Pakistan and the West Indies.

Does anyone else spring to mind as a viable option?

Given the lack of quality spinners we might start to really struggle to bowl solid teams out twice.

    Thoughts?

As much as I hate to say it, & as much as Dry Rot would love to say it, Douggie Bollinger has been terrific this season for the Blues. He's a genuine swinger of the ball & has to be seriously looked at.

He's the leading wicket taker at Pura Cup level with 44 scalps @ 14.02. Took 10 in the just completed win over WA, the second time this season he's taken 10 for in a match.

He is the standout and would start in my next test team.

Noffke, Hilfenhaus and Bracken offer decent back up.

Shame about Tait. He was ready to dominate Test cricket before his shoulder operation. To stop and recover properly will do him well as it has been that he will get an injury, recover, go straight into to cricket, followed by another injury, for some time. (Crap need to change my dream team now)

Maggofin has done well and is only 28 and Geeves looks OK at 25. Don't forget Gillespie if things fall apart. He only had 1 bad series and still performs for SA and was probably our best bowler against Bangladesh.

I just hope they don't pick another Brett Dorey (shudder)

Bollingers record has been OK this season but as someone else pointed out he would struggle to get a game with NSW if every player was available. My guess is that he would be behind Lee, Clarke and Bracken in the pecking order.
Id have Nannes ahead of him.

It doesn't sound good for Tait does it ? He has struggled for his fitness for ages and I guess when you are in recovery mode as often as him it must get you down.
Watson has had a terrible run at it as well.

I have to disagree with you. Bollinger's record has been excellent not OK. And he would be ahead of Bracken in the longer version of the game. If he can't get in because 3 international pacemen are already in the team then that is not his fault.

They would probably play 5 bowlers with Haddin as a batsman

I'm told Bollinger was crap in the UK where swing and seam rule.
How old is he my other question. Don't see the point in playing 30yo fast bowlers that have 3 or 4 year left in them. India can play 19 yo and suceed so why can't Australia?
A year or two of pain, in the long run its better to find someone thats special for 10year+ career.

Bollinger only 26 but he is as bald as a badger and you can't have that in test cricket.

He's 26. His CA proflie says, "A left-armer who mixes sharp pace with a consistent line and length." He may not swing it but he gets wickets at the SCG which isn't the most lively track.

Does anyone know which county he played?

Anyone who saw Frank Tyson skittle the Aussies (later playing for Footscray) would disagree with that.

                          Also what about Lillie?

Lillee was sex and at least had a tashe and sometimes a funky head band.
                            Tyson had the Yorkshire accent.

Personally I think our pace bowling stocks are fantastically placed at the moment. As others have pointed out Bollinger looks just about ready to make the step and the vics have 3 or 4 guys who are knocking over sides everytime they get on the park. They will all need time to establish themselves but we have 5-7 guys who are easily talented enough to make the grade if they are given a chance. Noffke must be bloody close as well. Siddle has taken 23 wickets in 3 games this season and is only a pup in bowling terms.

If I can see one problem without Tait it is the lack of a real impact bowler outside Tait and Lee. A few have suggested Nannes but he looks a bit wild for mine.
