    20 / 20 Australia vs India

Im not a big fan of the game but what a turn out for this contest. I thought the Australian team went in light on for one strike bowler but we slaughtered their young batting line up. To have them all out for 74 is sensational. Clarkes run out really got the ball rolling.

    Anyone else watching it?

Harbhajan actually gave his own player a bump when going for the catch. Maybe he could get a role in a footy team in a back pocket or something.

They claimed this was a practice match but they were protecting themselves. Australia was angry enough but they were also determined to get their first 20/20 win against India.

You could say it was a young team but it was a team that had worked before.

I havent enjoyed a non test match as much for ages. Great display of controlled aggression and sustained pressure by the Australian bowlers and fielders-Clarke had the Midas touch, he'll never have a game where so much came off again. Authoritive batting display and topped of by Harbijan and Pathan running into each other. Brilliant! That's the sort of misguided enthuisiasm, self importance and lack of communication you usually only see in park cricket.

BTW I dont understand how Nathan Bracken keeps racking up good bowling figures. Good luck to the kid and everything but surely batsman are going to work it out eventually.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Our best ODI bowler since the 05 tri-series. Swings it a a pace that reaches 140km (rarely) and can take off the pace so that he is never predictable.

FWI who got the wickets of Schanderpaul and Gayle (and the next batsmen) when they were tearing us up in th eChampions Trophy? Bracken.

He wouldn't last 10 minutes in the AFL.

The AFL take racial vilification seriously.

But they aren't exactly opposed to money... so he might last 15 minutes.

I'm not disputing his effectivness or output but I'm wondering why international class batsmen havent taken guard a yard or so down the pitch to kill the late swing he gets. I know that Gilchrist is standing up to the stumps when they do but good players shouldnt allow themselves to get spooked by a tactic like that.

He isn't a one trick pony. He rarely swings it after over 4 or 5 because he realizes that it is time to do some cutters and mix the pace up and become difficult to score off. Then batsmen can't be confident in their shots as much as they would against a Lee or Johnson.

I have to agree. There is more to his bowling than just swinging it around. He's been very good on the sub-continent as well where his swing isn't a big weapon for him.

He is effective in the limited overs form of the game because the batsman must get after him and he keeps changing things around.

He's really been a good example of player development. Hes not a guy I like (and yes part of it is just not being able to move past the headband) but I respect he has improved and has plenty of variation.

They've kept persisting with Bracken in the ODIs for years, and years before he was really contributing much. Part of it seems to be the fascination with left armers post Bruce Reid.

Do we want to bring a young key position player (Paul OShea) on in the same way?

Does Bracken fall over too much when he gets to the crease to consistently swing it a la a Wasim Akram?

I was at this game, in the afl members bit, and the crowd was amazing.

The boos for singh were huge, and the cheers for gilly when he came out to bat and when he left the ground were unbelieveable, i thought the crowd for the doggies-pies elim final a couple of years ago was crowd, but this was something else, was awesome to be there and hear it.

I dont mine twenty20 cricket, it goes way to fast tho hehe.

Good question and I think you are spot on. Akram was a terrific fast bowler in the best half dozen I have seen.

FWIW, I don't think it should be an international game. It's too late now but I would leave it as a state and district level game.

I wouldnt like to see a lot of it, but the odd game wouldnt hurt, maybe 3 a year here or something(1 here in melb, 1 in syd and 1 in qld, i dont no). Its a good game for the kids to go to, cause its short and there is always something happening(unless it was a game like last friday night )

It was fine as the occasional crowd getter but the ICC saw money as more important than cricket and did that world championship.
