    Australia's next all-rounder

    Moises Henriques

Henriques, Moss keep St George in front

ST GEORGE consolidated their grip on top spot in the Sydney grade competition, securing an emphatic win over Manly under threatening skies last weekend.

Four matches, including the game featuring Sydney University, currently in second place, were washed out but St George, led by a fine bowling performance by NSW all-rounder Moises Henriques, were able to bowl out Manly for 143. Henriques claimed the final wicket to finish with 4-56 from 24.3 overs to compensate for a disappointing match with the bat, with scores of 0 and 1. Despite the twin failures club secretary Jon Jobson said the youngster was fulfilling his promise this season.

"He's batted pretty consistently throughout the season and he's a true all-rounder," Jobson said. "He hasn't been all that consistent with his batting up until this year. He scored his first first-grade century earlier this year which was a good sign and, in some pressure situations, he's scored 60s and 80s that have made a real difference to the result of games."

Henriques has scored 569 runs at 43.77 this season - second at the club to Graeme Rummans, who has compiled 796 at 49.75 in his return season at the club after a spell in Victoria. Also making an impression in grade after time in southern climes is Jon Moss, who got the Sydney club across the line for a tight victory over Parramatta at Drummoyne Oval. Having posted a mammoth 6 (dec)-344 (Moss made 68), Sydney returned to the fray under heavy skies.

The fight is here; I need ammunition, not a ride.

There is a flaming red-nut who plays for a team south of your border who go's pretty well too, but I suppose to see him you might have to take your rose-coloured glasses off.

Seriously who gives a toss about Sydney grade cricket scores.

Henriques has the abilty to be a test quality all rounder but he is a mile off at the moment. He isn't quite quick enough to play purely as a bowler at the moment an his batting is a little up and down.
I'll watch his progress closely though

Do you see him as a test quality player? I think he would be handy as a ODI cricketer but Hopes would have him covered with both bat and ball at the moment.

I think he is far more suited to the 4 or 5 day format, but his skills are improving with exposure in both 20 over and 50 over games.

He put up some very good numbers last year at PC level (750+ runs & 25+ wickets??) and now that his injury concerns are over and he is back bowling he is a key member of the Vic team.

At present I would have Noffke as the next all-rounder type to be selected followed by McDonald. Henriques has talent, but is a million miles behind these 2.

I think Hopes doesn't quite get the kudos he probably deserves. I'd have him in front of McDonald in the ODI and probably the 4 day game as well. Noffke is a bowling all rounder which the selectiors have never been that comfortable with.

Mosies Henriques was the leading wicket taker and 3rd highest run scorer for Aus in the U-19 world cup a while ago. He also captained them and lead them to the semis. Since I saw that (it was a bit after Flintoff and he was still fresh in our memories) i have taken notice of him. The ball seems to be his strong point at the moment. He bowls decent pace and in a CA cup match a while ago he got a 6 fer in both innings. He has been compared to Steve Waugh with the bat.

He could be an all-rounder who can win the game with bat or ball

He has plently of potential and in some countries he would have already toured for them but until he can crack it for a regular game in NSW we cant really talk him up.

I think he should move interstate unless he is confident of getting into the top 6 batting spot for NSW.

He's in the one day team so he probably could soon

Lets not discount Cam White either.

Will never be a true all-rounder it seems. Handy bowler (it's been much better since he came back), Very dangerous batsman (Similar to Symonds)
