ST GEORGE consolidated their grip on top spot in the Sydney grade competition, securing an emphatic win over Manly under threatening skies last weekend.
Four matches, including the game featuring Sydney University, currently in second place, were washed out but St George, led by a fine bowling performance by NSW all-rounder Moises Henriques, were able to bowl out Manly for 143. Henriques claimed the final wicket to finish with 4-56 from 24.3 overs to compensate for a disappointing match with the bat, with scores of 0 and 1. Despite the twin failures club secretary Jon Jobson said the youngster was fulfilling his promise this season.
"He's batted pretty consistently throughout the season and he's a true all-rounder," Jobson said. "He hasn't been all that consistent with his batting up until this year. He scored his first first-grade century earlier this year which was a good sign and, in some pressure situations, he's scored 60s and 80s that have made a real difference to the result of games."
Henriques has scored 569 runs at 43.77 this season - second at the club to Graeme Rummans, who has compiled 796 at 49.75 in his return season at the club after a spell in Victoria. Also making an impression in grade after time in southern climes is Jon Moss, who got the Sydney club across the line for a tight victory over Parramatta at Drummoyne Oval. Having posted a mammoth 6 (dec)-344 (Moss made 68), Sydney returned to the fray under heavy skies.
