Hashim Amla has been appointed South Africa's Test captain, taking over from Graeme Smith, who retired in March. Amla's first assignment in charge will be South Africa's two-Test tour of Sri Lanka next month. The Test squad had two newcomers: batsman Stiaan van Zyl and offspinner Dane Piedt.
AB de Villiers continues to be the ODI captain, and will be the Test vice-captain. Amla is the vice-captain of the ODI squad which includes allrounder Jacques Kallis, who has targetted playing the 2015 World Cup.

Poor decision but I can't say I'm surprised. Amla has previously gone out of his way to shun leadership- he gave up captaining his franchise after one season, gave up the vice captaincy and has previously stated he doesn't see himself in a leadership role. It's hard to believe the rumours about the appointment being motivated by race are false, AB was an outstanding candidate in my mind.
