    Duckworth-Lewis

Does anyone know the formula applied to work this out?

When rain has had an effect, commentators will often say that if the game ended now, the batting team's score would need to be 'x'.

How do they arrive at 'x'? I know that the number of wickets lost is a factor, but not much else.

The nuts and bolts of it is the resources a batting team has in hand, namely overs to face and wickets in hand.

There is a table that works out a team's "resource percentage", a figure that combines overs remaining and wickets in hand, and the difference between the 2 teams' percentage is calculated, and this percentage is used to calculate the revised score.

The link gives a few practical examples of the method in action.

Sounds a;right in theory but it is not the solution to washed out games. The point of cricket is that if you're 5 for 5 in the 5th over you could still make 300. The d/l Lewis destroys that and often makes the game hard to win for a side just a little behind

Don't blame the system, blame the rain.
Apart from replaying the whole game, The DL system is the best option available if the game is interrupted. You only have to look at the previous systems for interrupted games to see why, in those days the team batting second always won.

I'd rather see the game played later or at least the result made irrelevant. Untill we have a system that is fair, matches decided by Duckworth Lewis mean little to me.

Thats not possible these days. Schedules need to be kept to.
Making the game irrelevent is even more farcial, especially in finals. D/L whilst not perfect is the best available or fairest available.
As I said blame the rain not the system.

I think it worked perfectly in the Vic vs Tas game.

Seemed to be very fair for both sides and I believe it showed with the game coming down to 6 balls with 1 wicket left.
