For the doubters and glass half empty fans

I am English and a Southampton soccer supporter in the English premier league,a small battling club, now before all you non soccer fans stop reading let me explain, last year the big clubs Liverpool, Manchester United and a club called Tottenham raided our club of our top players including the captain and our manager, we were basically without a team of any names and no leadership on the park, talk of relegation and club being sold, the owner has no idea on soccer and its going to be a hell Of a mess.
We finished 9 th I think it was last year which was a great result.

Well we recruited smartly, probably spent just over half of what we got for the exodus, the owner kept quiet through it all, a new manager was aquired a month before the season, good players bought in but apparently not of the calibre that left, a few of the juniors were given games , admittedly we are known as a club with one of the most successful at development.

Well 8 games in 5 wins 1 draw and 2 losses and we are 3rd and just had the biggest win ever in the premier league 8-0.
This group probably only got together as a team maybe 3 weeks before the season started.

Does anyone see a mirror image of this club and ours over the off season ?
So for all you fans and Robbos and Barrets of this world who think it might be doom and gloom , it's not its new, its exciting, its exhilarating and I suggest we all buy membership and watch as in the words of The great EJ we "stick it right up em"

I was a broken supporter 2 weeks ago. A club in turmoil and the light at the end of the tunnel seemed non existent. Late last week that all changed we put it all on the table and went for it. There is hope there and the potential of what could be is very exciting.

FWIW I'm still glass half empty for 2015. I don't think we'll open up like your soccer team, I think we'll struggle and be worse in terms of W/L than we were this season. I'm excited what comes after 2015. The road back to the top is a lot of fun.

God I would love the Saints to get a UCL at the end of the season.

I'd almost be prepared to sacrifice Chelsea's spot for them.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

I still have expectations but they are more based around improvement. If want to see us start to score more regularly and open up more more scoring avenues while retaining the ability to stop the opposition scoring multiple goals when we aren't playing well. The latter ability is the gift the last coach left us and I hope the next coach can maintain it while building a more attacking game plan.

It'd be pretty funny if Pool finish below them.

Yep that's right Remi we beat Ipswich 9-0. I think that could still be the highest ever win in the EPL.
Another big win we had was against Nottingham Forest away and that was 8-1

Plus Man U were a rabble last season.

Ledge is right though. Footballing fortunes can turn around very quickly. The new coach might click with the playing group which might translate into wins on the field.

How much money are they paying the new manager? Is it a lot relative to how much Southampton usually pay their managers?

No idea on manager payments .. But is it a quick turnaround for us player wise ? The kids would have been expected to improve next year anyway.

and meanwhile at Spurs......how is Pochettino going? I will be honest and say I put a fiver on Soton to go down. Koeman has been nothing short of amazing.
