    Vale Phil Hughes

So awful, so sad. Words escape me.

Phil Hughes' journey has ended doing something he loved, 60-odd kids are about start their journey in the AFL tonight. Life is fleeting. Hug your loved ones. I don't give a shit who we draft tonight. It doesn't matter. All that matters is we have fun along the way.

I agree. I think this is close as I've been to shock. The tweets from ex/players is the same. I just couldn't find the words above, but that's what I wanted to say...

Devastating, just devastating. Hard to put into words.

The cricket world won't be the same for a very long time.

This has to be the most tragic event in sport I can remember for a long time. Gosh it's heartbreaking news. Was hoping so much he would pull through.

A very sad day for Australian sport, he was a very talented young man and he will be missed. I feel for his family and for Abbott who bowled the fateful ball. I hope CA has some programs in place to offer support for all that need it. What a bloody tragic accident.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

Sad sad sad. Out of the modern cricketers he was my favourite.

                    Life is so fickle.

RIP young man and condolences to the family.

Spare a thought for Sean Abbott who must be a shattered man and will need all the help to get through this.

                        Re: Vale Phil Hughes

I wanted to believe he was going to pull through, that maybe, just maybe, he'd wake up and it would al be ok.

This is by far the darkest day in Australian Sport. And I've used those words deliberately. Sometimes a flat out tragedy comes along and puts things into context.

Phil, Goodbye and may your God go with you.

What a horrible tragedy. For a young man passing away playing the game he loves. RIP Phil Hughes. You were a delight to watch cracking that ball to all parts of the ground. Never to be forgotten.

The scorecard reads out retired. As the game was cancelled without a another ball, he should be 63 not out. It's not about the scorecard per se, it's a tiny asterix, but there's a part of me that wants him to be not out. In his story, his soul being not out and the power of that asterix is a powerful tribute to him. #63NotOut

Just devastatingly dreadful news. I just wish there was some way to make this un-happen. Sport is supposed to be fun, healthy and bring joy to life, not end it.
I offer his family my sincere condolences. My thoughts also go out to poor Sean Abbott.
