Definitely see White as the logical standby from a batting perspective.

Discussed the side with a few mates this morning, and the biggest query I had was who are our death bowlers? I'm not convinced Starc and Johnson will have the consistency, particularly with the white ball.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

The batting leans dangerously toward power hitting with nobody who looks capable of playing the anchor role. Apart from Watson. The only thing you can rely on him to do is something stupid and get out.

It's not the T20 World Cup we are trying to win.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Clarke and Smith as well, although Clarke's a strong chance not to play. I wonder if Warner's success in Test cricket might start to change the way he plays ODI's?

          Re: My World Cup Squad

Its a bloody good squad...particularly when you look at the players who have missed out.
We will be extremely hard to beat - particularly with the tournament being in Australia.

I love Clarke as a player - but think I'd prefer a fit and firing Bailey in the XI rather than Clarke at this point in his career under an injury cloud.

          Watson is still a gun ODI player - and crucial to the team's chance of success. My best XI right now would be;

          1. Finch
          2. Warner
          3. Watson
          4. Smith
          5. Bailey
          6. Maxwell
          7. Haddin
          8. Faulkner
          9. Johnson
          10.Cummins
          11. Doherty/Hazlewood (dependant on conditions).

Batting: All of Finch, Warner, Watson and Smith have the ability to make 100s. Bailey and Maxwell in the middle of the order offer the big shots and ability to accelerate the run rate in a big way through the mid to late overs. As can Haddin and Faulkner - but Haddin adds some experience and can bat absolutely anywhere from opening to 9 if Faulkner or others float up.

Bowling wise, Johnson picks himself. He and Faulkner give you two left hand pace bowlers, so I've gone with Hazlewood and Cummins as the other two rather than Starc. Cummins could run through a side in the World Cup. Hazlewood and Doherty interchangeable dependant on conditions.

Maxwell and Watson bowl the remaining overs. Both good ODI bowlers. Doubt we'd need to bowl Smith - but he's there.

Finch is another who has shown himself capable of batting through the 50 overs, he's explosive but people underrate the gears to his game

Just watching some of the BBL and I'd love to have Pattinson ready for this squad. I think the adjustments they've made to his action are terrific. He looks more side on and gets through the crease straighter, it should really help his outswing which went missing in the UK and get him through in straight lines rather than pushing towards leg and onto the pads. Has lost none of his pace either, was up at 145kph

Ian Bell has made 187 off 145 balls in the one day game against the PM XI. England made a monstrous 391 off their 50 overs.

In reply the PM XI are currently 3/154 off 21.4 overs. Maxwell is 89 not out off just 59 balls.

So who replaces Faulkner in the early part of the Cup? He's probably the only player with no direct replacement in terms of being a finisher with the bat and container with the ball so does Doherty come in with Haddin, Johnson and Starc sliding up?

Would Henriques be in the mix as a replacement for the squad?
Other than that, it's as you say moving Johnson and Starc up the order

My concern is whether Henriques or any of the other all-rounders coming in does enough with the ball to justify batting 8? An attack of Johnson, Hazlewood, Starc with Henriques, Watson, Marsh and Maxwell backing them up just lacks some front line strength for me

Agreed, it would be a waste for Henriques to bat at 8. Move Johnson to 8 and bring in a strike bowler. It looks like we could have a few question marks on fitness once the tournament starts.

Won't it just be Mitch Marsh, assuming Watson is fit?

                          Team would be something like:
                          Warner
                          Finch
                          Watson
                          Smith
                          Bailey
                          Maxwell
                          Haddin
                          M Marsh
                          Johnson
                          Starc
                          Hazlewood

Sounds like they will be giving Faulkner every chance to recover so there won't be any replacement coming into the squad yet.

Marsh at 8 isn't ideal. You might was well pick another strike bowler. Perhaps in your side Bailey makes way for Doherty and Marsh moves to 6.

I don't disagree, that is just what I think they will do.
