Is Peter Siddle's International Career Over?

Nothing that's he done wrong, but a little like Hilfy a few years ago, I'm not too sure he keeps out Patto, MJ, Cummins, Starc, Hazlewood, Bird and Harris. He's been a solid campaigner, but for me if have my money on gone.

I think so. As good a warrior as he has been for Australia we are loaded with really good, young fast bowlers. We have to sort out who the two or three main quicks to take us through the next five years and that means Siddle misses out.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Re: Is Peter Siddle's International Career Over?

I think he'll tour, especially if he finishes the summer well in first class cricket. Our young and tall quicks without Harris/Johnson if either broke down would be extremely vulnerable and might need a warhorse assisting to help get them through a long day. There's also a chance some of them might put a few poor innings together on lifeless wickets and find themselves out of the side.

At this point it's easy to think about Siddle's international career being done with, especially with the wickets bouncing (apart from Sydney) and our opposition being soft in the tail. Having said that, not a lot would need to go wrong for him to get a gig again.
      TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

Harris is only a slim chance to go to England and will assess his body after this test, which may give Siddle a reprieve. Agree though, we do have some good upcoming quicks so he may not be the first picked anymore.

If he can't get his pace back up, it's over. That simple to me.

Yep, he has no value as a military medium line and length bowler who gets slower as the day wears on.

He made his name by being the guy who'd bowl high 140's in his first over and mid 140's in his 30th over. It's all good and well to want to re-invent yourself to fit the ideals of your new celebrity hunting friends, but if it prevents you from being able to do what got you where you are in the first place, then you're just going to lose what you had. Siddle is there right now and if he doesn't re-discover his old self then it's over for him.

Perhaps his 18 bananas a day has something to do with it?

I love a banana as much as the next bloke but 18 a day is a bit OTT.

I used to work with a guy who maintained he couldn't watch a grown man eat a banana.

                      Thought of your ex-colleague.

Can we get this back on track please fellas?

He's bowled with nice pace and some decent away swing in the Big Bash, I still think he adds value as an experienced squad player to take on tour

He does add depth and has lots of valuable experience in English conditions to add to discussions about the Ashes squad, you're right there Lem.

Sorry Lem. I tend to agree with Slim. Watson if fit bowls at the same pace at the moment and does just as much with the ball in terms of movement in UK conditions. Unless something happens, I think he will go the way of Fleming, Hilfy and those 3rd type quicks that just fade away into retirement or state cricket, or Premier League in India.

I think given that our bowlers struggle to stay on the park you would pension off Siddle at your peril. On paper he is behind a few, but The Ashes is a whole different ball game and having him on tour and ready play if one of your frontline bowlers goes down is important.
