Listening to the cricket on 774 and shocked to hear Drew was part of the ABC cuts by the Lib and he is finishing up after the cricket.

I would say he is my favourite sports broadcaster. He is so adaptable to any sport and will be missed.

I am so unhappy about this decision and I think it's a massive mistake by the ABC. My thoughts on the government would be censored by the mods.

Quite a few are going including Dan Lonergan. Drew has been a great commentator and will of course be missed.

It's funny, Drew Morphett is a commentator that's actually improved over the years and is great to listen to now. It's a shame he has to finish up.

I didn't mind Lonergan if he wasn't talking about the Bulldogs.

It's funny, Drew Morphett is a commentator that's actually improved over the years and is great to listen to now. It's a shame he has to finish up.

You may be a bit young to remember The Winners, but Drew was great back then as well.

I remember him from when I was quite young, but while my issue was mainly with cricket I thought he struggled a bit with the footy as I was a teenager (when he was on channel seven).

Maybe I've softened since then (imagine how much of a prick I was back in my teens and twenties!)

Nothing has changed

but on a serious note, I didn't like it when he went to 7

From the sound of him today I think Drew has very few regrets and is looking forward to the next stage of his life.

Drew didn't know anything about football until he moved to Perth from Sydney at 20 to take on a calling job over there so it's quite likely he didn't grow up supporting any team. Who he follows now, if anyone, is probably more about where he lives and who he enjoys watching.

I'm pretty certain that 20+ years ago, I recall Morphett saying he was a Richmond fan. For some reason that stuck with me.

I was doing some DIY today and listened to the final session on ABC. Wow was it average, almost no insight into what was transpiring, hesitation with everything they were saying, and overall it just seemed amateurish. I don't listen to cricket on the radio much so maybe that's just what ABC is like all the time.

I think you might be right. I do remember him hosting the Winners one night wearing a Footscray scarf but that was because he had lost a bet.
