    Kumar Sangakkara

It wasn't given a lot of fanfare due to the Sydney Test, but last week Kumar brought up his eleventh test double century against New Zealand.

    Eleven.

    ELEVEN!

For the record, that puts him second only to Sir Donald for 200s.

Putting aside the fact that he's played against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh, that's a staggering feat.

He's also become the fastest batsman to reach 12000 test runs.

Bravo. Who would've thought this would happen. I always thought he was very good, but this is elite of the elite.

One of the greats, and horribly underrated

Very well done. That's a great achievement.

How many double centuries did the Don make?
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

It should noted Sangakkara has 4 against Bangladesh/Zimbabwe and another 3 against Pakistan. He hasn't made one in any of Australia, England, India, or South Africa, in fact his only double century outside the sub-continent locations of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Pakistan/UAE is Zimbabwe.

The Don made 12 double centuries, including two triple centuries in only 53 Tests.
              Great effort by Sangakkara.

                12 from 52 tests.

Lara is next on 9 followed by Jawaradene and Wally Hammond with 7. Tendulkar, Ponting, Javad Miandad, Marvin Attapattu and Virender Sehwag have 6 each

What a freak Bradman was. These days he would have played easily 250 tests over his 18 year career. At the same ratio that's 60 double centuries in test matches alone.

Sangakarra is a great batsman. He may not have big double centuries here but when he has batted here he has been all class both in technique and as a person. He is incredibly hard to get out, has all the shots and scores quickly. Keeping wicket brings extra pressure also and he handled that with ease as well. I remember the 192 in Hobart - super innings.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

There are easier bowling attacks than the Bangers to bat against but I doubt the conditions they play under and in aren't the best either. I'd think it can get pretty hot and uncomfortable there for playing cricket.

                        What a hack //rolls eyes.

Also worth noting he got jobbed out of a double at Hobart in 07/08.

Also worth noting a lot of his test career was burdened with having to be the best wicket keeper in the world.

Best player of this era period.

Just pointing out how much minnow cricket the lower ranked teams play

But since you're obviously keen on details.

He hasn't wicket kept in about 8 years and wasn't very good at it let alone the best in the world

Averages 43 against Australia 40 against England and 35 & 36 respectively against South Africa and India away from home

Doesn't hold a candle to the records of guys like Kallis, Tendulkar, and Ponting who did it against all teams.

Am I doing the childish rolleyes thing right?

Personally I think it's childish to need to diminish the phenomenal accomplishments of someone just because it's more difficult to just accept they're good, but whatever.

So do McGrath's wickets not count because he got to play the majority of his tests in pace friendly conditions?

I can't see what you're trying to accomplish other than being childishly argumentative. Some people feel the need to so vigorously defend anything being discussed in context.

The smaller cricket boards try to generate interest in minnow vs minnow Test matches by scheduling never ending fixtures on pitches created to encourage pointless batting records. Why you feel so desperate to dismiss that I have no idea. Either way I don't care enough to give it any further thought.
