I've said it in previous threads eluding to this issue. We and those that we associate with are to blame for this crap being poured over us. The people at CH9 aren't dickheads, they know what we as a broader populace know and expect from a broadcasting team.

We are a stupid bunch who individually know what is being dished up is tripe. The fact is we don't want or expect any more as a collective and that's the downfall we all suffer from, and the reason we have to put up with this rubbish.
Are you talking about cricket commentary or federal politics? :P

The annoying thing with Warne is that he actually has a lot to offer when he isn't playing the arseclown role

Scathing which upon reflection is 100% accurate. I'm Gen X and grew up with Richie, Lawry and Grieg and I'd be interested in hearing from Gen Y on what type of commentary they want or expect. Times have change and I wouldn't be surprised to hear that this type of commentary is entertaining to them.

The channel 9 commentary team in my mind is doing Australian cricket a huge disservice. It is the core medium used to pitch the sport to Australian audiences and having Brayshaw and too many piss in my pocket mates on the commentary team is indeed taking the focus off the game which in turn indirectly implies that most cricket watchers are buffoons - which couldn't be further from the truth because no other game in the world is as scientific or artful as cricket, at least to me.

Australian cricket commentary is quickly eroding the 'thinking persons' game.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

IIRC the episode was called The Art of the Interview. Bloody funny episode.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Ronan Connelly has just had a crack on SEN now and also brought up that Warne is good to listen to when he isn't taking about pizza like he did for half of the Australian summer

I'm on the cusp of Gen X and Gen Y. I can't think any of mates - who would clearly identify as Gen Y - who have had something positive to say about the commentary team if the comments they post on FB are any indication of the way they feel.

I think crap is crap, and some people across the different generations have the ability to sniff it out as such, while others don't. It seems that the general dumbing down of the populace by the mainstream media is working, and cricket (and to a lesser extent Australian rules) is slowly falling victim to it.
                TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

Yes it's a pity that there seem to be large numbers of people who aren't sniffing it as evidenced by their acceptance of the trash handed out by the current crop of commentators. Cricket match numbers are down but ratings are consistent

Given the cash involved in advertising now I don't think commentators or CA are too concerned about what the average punter thinks or wants.

The problem is the group of people in this thread reasonably discussing the merits of individual commentators against the backdrop of an overall poor product would be drowned out by the standard response of "Get over it. If use dont like it dont watch. I like Brayshaw and Warnie, at least their real, not like them boring crusty old tossers on the radio. Youse don't no nothin" from the greater population.

Dysgenics is very much real, and we're currently in the early stages of what is an exponential curve. The lowest common denominator are what advertisers target, so is in turn who the TV networks aim to engage. Why? Because despite on average earning less money, they actually spend far more on mindless consumer crap than the more eductated/cultured middle class. And they're breeding at twice the pace as those society would prefer be breeding, so it's not going to change sadly.

Warne and Brayshaw will be seen as insightful cricket analysts in the near future, likewise BT for football, A Current Affair will be hard hitting news, Mark Robinson will be quality print journalism, Facebook will be a credible media source, and K-Mart will be high end consumer goods.
