    10 Team Finals Series

Last night on "On The Couch" Mark Evans raised the possibility of a 17/5 fixture coupled with a 10 team finals series.

First 17 weeks - play each team once.

Top 6 play each other once for finals seedings.
Middle 6 play each other for 4 "wild card" berths.
Bottom 6 play each other for draft order.

There are a number of finals formats that could be used, including having 2 wild card games playing for 7th and 8th position and then continuing with the final 8 as it is now. I actually prefer a finals series with no double chances, so every game is win or go home.....

Finals Week 1: Wild Card Weekend

    10th at 7th
    9th at 8th

    Week 2: Qualifying Finals

Lowest wild card seed at 1st
2nd lowest wild card at 2nd
    6th at 3rd
    5th at 4th

    Week 3: Semi Finals

Lowest seeded winner at highest seeded winner
2nd lowest seed at 2nd highest

    Week 4: Grand Final

Grand Final between week 3 winners

    Key points:
No double chances - every game is sudden death.
All games played at home grounds except Grand Final.
No preliminary finals - to make Bulldog fans happy.

Our preliminary finals are semi finals by another name. If four competitors are playing off in two games for two spots in in a deciding match then they are semi finals.

    Anyway carry on.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Never fails to amaze me the AFL constantly wanting to change the status quo.

I am more than happy with the current format thank you

BAD, would this not take away the rigged fixture and be a positive for equalisation?

If the AFL are thinking along these lines it tells me they're realising their current model is detrimental to the game.
        TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

I don't mind some sort of revamp of the 17 plus 5 H&A games, but ten teams in the finals is ridiculous and cheapens the whole finals series. It actually rewards mediocre clubs. Even the current 8 is to many but I can live with it.
