Viney banned for one match. What a bloody joke. He has a fisty cuffs, blatant boxing and gets a miserable week. Jong accidently bumps a player and ends up with 2 - both after early plea.

The Viney decision. What an absolute farce. And the comparison with Jong's is a good one.

How, as a sport, can they say that a bump on another player - when going for the ball - could possibly end up with double the punishment that is handed out to a player who throws three punches to the head of an opposition player (and connects) off the ball.

WTF. One week for Viney. Stop wrestling and start punching Tom & Jake. That's outrageous.

Didn't the MRP tell Viney's knuckle there was insufficient force? If the AFL don't appeal this they never will. Unless it's a dogs player.

Intent is what should be used with these cases. Jong didn't mean to clip Buntine but gets 3 weeks down to 2. Viney goes out and starts throwing punches with intent to hit the head and gets 1 week. If your intent is to hurt then throw the book at them.

Jack Viney, Melbourne, has been charged with striking Brad Ebert, Port Adelaide, during the first quarter of the Round 10 match between Melbourne and Port Adelaide, played at Traeger Park on Saturday May 28, 2016.

In summary, he can accept a one-match sanction with an early plea.

Based on the available video evidence and a medical report from the Port Adelaide Football Club, the incident was assessed as intentional conduct with low impact to the head. The incident was classified as a two-match sanction. The player has no applicable record which impacts the penalty. An early plea enables the player to accept a one-match sanction.
Not sure how else they could have assessed it? Seems reasonable to to me, Ebert didn't really seem affected by the punches.

However, shouldn't it have been 2 or 3 charges - 1 for each punch that landed? Or once you land one punch are you free to keep going as it will only be assessed as the one incident?

Can't believe that little bit of push and shove constituted a melee. Surely you also need more than 3 players for it to be a melee, why were they the only 3 charged?

So one player involved in a Melee from one team but two from another ? That's not a Melee.
Collingwood should be fined for players not supporting one of their players.

Viney didn't throw punches, really. They were swings at his head that didn't really connect with great force, but the fists weren't tight.
                    TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

It's been a hot topic at AFL House and the mandate has clearly come down to fine everyone if more than 2 players are in a scuffle.

Also - very amusing re Viney, thanks.

Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

They were going to charge Ebert with head butting Vineys fist.

When was this melee? I can't remember it.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

                            Correct.

If they couldn't identify 2 more players from the video then they can't only cite 3.

We should contest the fines and get Collingwood on board to do it.

Bit of an odd scenario with Toovey having a concussion that they haven't been able to explain. Hopefully no witch hunt/closer look at the melee occurs.
