Collingwood have said that they aren't sure exactly how Toovey was concussed, 'but would get to the bottom of it during the week'.

        AFL has looked at it:

Surely if somebody had whacked Toovey behind the play at the time he went down half way through the second quarter someone would have seen it and the down the ground cameras would have picked it up?

It seems like it might have been a delayed concussion from something earlier in the game, like when Vickery was trying to mark an imaginary football in that pre-season match.

Is it only good for the Bulldogs or will there be fines for this. If not the club should contest the fines.

There seems to be a lot of misconceptions about "delayed concussion" in the media. The concussive episode itself is not delayed, some of the symptoms are - by hours or days. These delayed symptoms are in addition to the immediate symptoms that occur at the time of the brain injury.

The issue in diagnosing concussion is that (like many other serious diseases) the immediate symptoms can be quite vague, and therefore misdaignosed as something less serious. eg meningococcal meningitis/septicaemia oftens presents as a mild flu like illness.

                    No Charge

Contact between West Coast Eagles’ Shannon Hurn and Jordan Roughead from the third quarter of Sunday’s match was assessed. The panel said Roughead took possession and was immediately tackled by West Coast’s Scott Lycett. As Roughead was being tackled, he fell and made contact with Hurn. Hurn turned side- on and braced for the approaching contact. It was the view of the panel that the high contact to Roughead was caused by circumstances outside the control of player Hurn, as he did not have a bumping action. No further action was taken.

Hurn was bumping regardless. Garbage decision, especially in comparison to the Jong incident.

                        Cheers.

So it would be correct to say that Vickery was suffering from a delayed symptom but the damage was already occurring before the symptom appeared.

I was hit on the head with a tree branch when I was in primary school. I was fine until I woke up the next day with a really bad head ache. Ended up in hospital for a few days.

100%. No one holds them to serious account.

How did I know Hurn would have no case to answer. It's definitely a chook lotto. Other teams are obviously allowed to bump our heads but we aren't allowed to accidentally bump other teams. We have always got a raw deal at the tribunal imo.

No, we are both wrong. I found this in the 2016 AFL Laws of the Game:

                              16.1.5.18

                              18. Western Bulldogs

                              18. A. No Western Bulldogs players shall make any contact with any opposition players above the shoulder. Up to and including pats of support. Offences shall carry a minimum of one week suspension, or in cases not likely to receive media attention a 100% loading applies.

                              18. B. If opposition players make any contact with Western Bulldogs players heads, deliberate, reckless, accidental or incidental then the Match Review Panel is obligated to grade such impact such that it the opposition player shall not be suspended. In cases likely to attract media attention, a one week suspension can be granted if it was effected by a tip rat like Lindsay Thomas. However, AFL media shall be obligated to run stories that the aforementioned tip rat was being 'tried by media'.

Rules are rules. Just gotta move onto next week.
