I'm going to the Rising Star tomorrow - bit of a downer that there are no dogs involved.
The last time I went was the year Bont ran second.

Young and Lipinski should be good chances to pick up nominations next year if they continue to improve.

So was Bont and you could also lay a claim so was Daniel.. It's supposed to be about who you think will be the next star but it seems they pick them on the year they have in the first year and don't look at the future improvement. Seriously Bontempelli not getting it was an outright horrid decision and everyone could see it !

The award is about who has had the better year. If it was who is the nest star then Curnow would have won.

But it should be that's why it's called the "rising"star. They are supposed to choose who they think is the best to come not who had a good first year.
Bontempelli embarrassed them when the players voted he won by a country mile.

The same way clubs use to choose players, upside,not always the best player in the final year.
The rising star should be called the best first year player the way they choose it.
The rising star should be someone they can see the most upside with.

Yep. That's what it is.

As another poster has said, Curnow probably wins the 'who do you want for 10 years' conversation, but you can't say he had a better season than McGrath.

In the Bont year - I still think Bont had more of an impact than Taylor and should have won - but with Taylor playing 22 games and putting up similar numbers, I can at least see how it was possible.
