If they deem this a breach of his contract, they rip it up and spend the $500,000 next year towards poaching another player. Might be very good news for them if that's what their lawyers tell them to do. Akermanis had his contract ripped up/summary dismissal for much, much less.

Akermanis' contract was not 'ripped up'. It was paid out. Massive difference.

King has been charged, Vickery was released without charge.

Perhaps not an apples for apples comparison. Suffice to say the point being if Hawthorn lawyers say something like 'consider the conduct such that he has repudiated the contract, and as such the contract is terminated without the balance of $500,000 next year being paid'. Or if it triggers a specific clause regarding conduct related termination. Then it's up to Hawthorn what they want to do.

If any person, unrelated to this example, has used threats in extortion on behalf of someone. Then been charged for it. That other person in theory is an accomplice at very least. It might be by summons later. Again, talking about another hypothetical and not this situation.

No first rounder this year either, the Saints are laughing.

They probably lose Gibson and Hodge this year, Burgoyne the next. They are struggling, even if JOM comes on (which I'm not sure).
