    *!*!*!*! you AFL
BAD honestly, you need to choose just one hill to die on. I don't want you to descend into madness on this stuff, you've had a good life, worked hard, been successful and seen many scenes.

If you make the realisation that you're watching entertainment conflated with sport, it's heaps easier. Literally nothing is reasonable or even. MCG tenants stand to benefit by $1m this year just because, we get JUH, ironically we only play each team once this year but that's going to be seen as terrible for the game.....you know, because an even draw is worse than a contrived fixture.

It's time to let go and suffer blissfully like the rest of us.
    TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

      Re: MRO Thread

Brad Johnson has broken ranks with the usual commentator MO of 'talking down incidents that involve favourite sons'. He was very unhappy with the penalty for the Burgoyne incident:

A ‘terrible message’ to junior footy: Brad Johnson hits out at fine for Shaun Burgoyne’s ‘dangerous’ tackle

Fired-up Western Bulldogs games record-holder Brad Johnson says Shaun Burgoyne’s sling tackle is an action that “shouldn’t be part of our game”, declaring the financial sanction the veteran Hawk copped sends a “terrible message to the footy community”.

Burgoyne avoided a suspension for a tackle that dazed Geelong champion Patrick Dangerfield during Hawthorn’s Friday night loss, with Match Review Officer Michael Christian slapping him with a fine for rough conduct.

The incident was assessed as careless conduct, high contact and, crucially, low impact, with Burgoyne able to accept a $1,000 fine with an early plea.

If it’d been graded as medium impact, Burgoyne would’ve copped a one-week suspension.

The MRO believed there was not a degree of force that was in line with a higher grading.

But Johnson was left flabbergasted by the financial sanction.

“Unbelievable,” Johnson told Fox Footy’s Saturday Stretch. “It’s a bad message.

“It should be the action (that is punished), I think we can all agree on that, but it’s not. So the parameters by what they work by is what they have.

“But the message to everyone in the footy community, to the local levels, to the junior levels – ‘you can sling and it’s a fine’? No! That’s a dangerous action. That sling is no good. It shouldn’t be part of our game.”

Johnson said Burgoyne should’ve been banned for one to two weeks.

“Look at the aggressiveness – Danger is lucky he put his arm down, but he could’ve popped the shoulder – his head hits the ground and he gets up. But it’s a terrible message to the footy community that you can get away with that,” he said.

Asked if too much emphasis was put on the outcome in MRO assessments, Johnson said: “100 per cent. The outcome should be a layer on what should be a week

“So if he gets a week for that, outlaw it, no player can do it – a week. If it concusses him, injures his shoulder, the layers go up from there. But the action needs to be judged as well – and that action should not be part of our game.”

Dangerfield, who received a free kick and was able to play out the game, sympathised with his rival.

“It’s pretty hard from Shaun’s perspective to be able to see where the ball is in play,” Dangerfield said.

“We expect so much of our players to play on instinct and play on edge and be physical.”

        Re: MRO Thread

The commission has changed the rules on sling tackle. Too late for Hayes as he should never had got a week under the existing rules but would have under the new rule - just because it was Dangerfield.

Not everything is a conspiracy against the bulldogs. The overwhelming majority think this was a bad decision and Burgoyne should have been suspended. As far as I know in recent history these types have tackles have generally resulted in suspension. They played 3 on the Sunday Footy show yesterday (including Dangerfield on Kruzer) that I thought were not as bad as Burgoyne's, yet all resulted in suspension.

Setterfield got 2 weeks for a sling tackle last year when the person who received the tackle ended up kicking the winning goal in the game. How can the same action result in a 2 week penalty difference?

It’s because when it comes to the stars they attach less “suspended” sections to the roulette wheel (that they use for deciding). I think sometimes they even ‘forget’ to add them in (like with Ablett’s pointy elbows the first few times).

Contact between Western Bulldogs’ Aaron Naughton and GWS GIANTS’ Lachie Whitfield from the first quarter of Friday night’s match was assessed. The ball is loose. Naughton and Whitfield approach the ball from opposing directions and high contact is made by Naughton on Whitfield. It was the view of the MRO that Naughton was contesting the ball and his actions were not unreasonable in the circumstances. No further action was taken.

The poor umpiring that allowed the likes of Bont and Naughton to be continually scragged behind play without any intervention by the men in white was a disgrace and a major factor in the fines meted out to WB players. It was also a sad reflection on Leon Cameron to allow his players to resort to these acts of intimidation.

Can't believe the thug Dale got off for touching the Swans player's shoulder!

Dale cleared by Match Review Officer

The AFL’s Match Review Officer has overturned a match-day report against Western Bulldogs forward Bailey Dale, clearing him to play against North Melbourne next week.

Dale was reported for making contact with Sydney’s Robbie Fox during the third quarter of Thursday night’s Round 4 match at the SCG.

In a statement released by the AFL, it was found that Dale’s action was considered insufficient force.

“James Rowbottom kicks the ball forward for Sydney in the direction of Fox. While Fox is marking the ball, Dale attempts to spoil the ball from behind and in the process makes contact to the back of Fox’s shoulder,” the statement read.

“It was the view of the MRO that whilst a careless action, there was insufficient force to constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken.”

Dale collected 15 disposals (nine contested), kicked a goal and took four marks in the Dogs’ comfortable 28-point win over the Swans.
