    Richmond Rebuild

How does Richmond handle this rebuild?
North jettisoned a lot of senior players over a couple of years and have struggled ever since and while the Tigers have done it quickly, developing a number of top end talent is likely going to be a massive challenge for them.

How do you think they will go in 2025 and how do they manage the influx of a number of top end into the club.

it's a massive job they have in front of them. Most clubs just bring in one or to high end players and the focus on them. They have something like 7 so it's going to test their development plans.

Who could have ever seen biggest dickhead in the AFL Noah Balta also being a dickhead off the field?

It's so unwise to be out late in a situation where you can get in trouble as an AFL player.

There would be many dickheads vying for the title of the one who took one down.

Noah Belter. You can see his anger issues on field. I'm not really surprised by these allegations.

I guess we don't know the story just yet but I doubt that anyone is surprised by Balta grabbing the headlines for the wrong reasons

It's going to be slim pickings for a few seasons being realistic, that said Richmond supporters should be willing to be patient given their recent success with 3 flags, you should cop that as supporters given the ride they've been on plus now bringing in all these new shiny toys (high draftees) to watch develop over the next few seasons, and should be in a decent position to gain some more high end draftees before Tassie raid the comp, almost the perfect position but they'll be in the wilderness for some years one would think.

Their other issue is that quite a few of their senior players are rarely on the track with injuries, Hopper, Prestia, Lynch need to stay fit, Nank is nowhere near what he used to be, to lose so many players in one hit will hurt a lot so they'll be relying on the early 20 year olds, Gibcus is a talent but again, always injured, spoon this season no doubt and possibly for the next few.

They are in for a world of hurt. This influx of kids might give the supporters a bit of a boost but they will grow tired of it quick enough.

I think 2025 will be a major struggle.

This may be an unfair comment but not sure they pulled the right rein in hiring Adam Yze. Granted his team was decimated by injury during the first half of 2024 but he seems very uninspiring. Having said that Andrew McQualter seems even less inspiring if that is possible.

Their drafting strategy was interesting. They clearly target top tier talent in Lalor and Smillie but from on they took a few risks with Hotton, Faul and Trainor.

This draft haul should be boom but it could very well be a bust.

The seem to have taken a longer term view with their drafting and they'll need a lot to go right to make any sort of impression this year.

You only have to look at West coast to see how hard it is to rebuild an AFL side , early draft picks don't guarantee you success (Gold coast ), rebuilds take time in many cases lots of time, Richmond not only lost good players but lost great clubmen ( Baker), and in my opinion great clubmen are harder to replace then the better players , so expect them to languish around the bottom of the ladder for a few years to come .

Noah Balta must have really mucked up.

Richmond has suspended him for the first four games of 2025.

I wonder if the penalty would have been the same if they were Premiership contenders rather than wooden spoon favourites?

I think it would've been. I called it earlier in the thread Adam Yze is coaching for his life and now this. Bolta is their best player, and he is likely to miss half the season now through a combination of off field suspension, injury and on field suspension.
