Good News/Bad News...what would you prefer??

Pre-season is a bit of a weird time for reporting.

Good news is very 'general' - player 'w' walks his cat, player 'x' looks fit, player 'y' is in a new role, coach 'z' seems revitalised etc.
Bad news is very specific. Player 'a' is injured. Player 'b' is going to jail. Coach 'c' is about to get sacked.

My question is this. Do you prefer reading about generalised 'GOOD' news about the 'Dogs or SPECIFIC BAD news about other clubs.

It's sort of case by case for me - Stephen May annoys me so the idea he might be in some sort of trouble is what I would call 'GOOD' Bad news...but obviously the circumstances are a less than ideal (which does make me think maybe I have a bit too much dislike for Stephen May - a person I have never met).

On the other hand, I would willingly read a feel good post about the 'Dogs unless I was getting "I've heard this before" vibes in which case I'm kind of at the 'show me don't tell me' stage with a lot of the current group...which does sort of suck the joy out of it a little...

Of course, it goes without saying BAD news about the Dogs is the WORST sort (but also the sort I can't resist)...

I think I am not a bad person, but somehow I enjoy reading about an opposition star player being out for x months or the year. I guess I am selfish as I don't want them playing against us and tearing us apart.

I want Good news about us and get depressed if I hear bad news against us, like Marra out, or a long term injury, or some misdemeanour happening in a players personal life.

I don't get overly excited about Preseason stuff and if we lost tomorrow, I am not all that worried as these games are for trialling, testing and working on game plans.

Prefer good news no doubt, with other clubs and take Dom Sheed as an example, don't particularly like or hate West Coast they're just another side but felt shit for him doing his ACL the other week, and really bad injuries like that in general, I think having played sport (not at the highest level obviously) and knowing the struggles you go through.

What I really yearn for during preseason is to find out who will be GETTABLE at seasons end...

I like the positive reports, and as an AFL fantasy player like to follow all clubs for news on who is training well/new roles etc, but have learned over the years that all clubs make things sound a lot better than they are.

Definitely prefere the good news about our club , and like Bornadog said im not a bad person ( i dont think ) , but i check every week to see who is injured from opposition clubs so i know who wont be lining up against us . So general good news about our club is my fix , but dont necessarily need bad news about opposition clubs to feel good if that makes sense .

I don't like any player being out for a long time - just out for our clash. As you say these guys work so hard and to be cruelled by an injury for a year is shocking

I enjoy the bad news from a club point of view (e.g. Melbourne falling apart was genuinely uplifting to me), but I always feel the personal side to those issues as well (ie I hope that as a person Petracca is in a good headspace and is building confidence in his body, but I also hope Melbourne don't win a game).

Exactly right? It's hard NOT to feel this way...

Honestly I would be happy for Pickett if he signed long-term...but I very much enjoy the stories about him leaving and the dismantling of the Dees 2021 group...

I don't think i particularly like any of the news, it's fine it's just uninteresting on bothban emotional and interactive level, and we've heard it all before.

I do try to follow who is impressing, particularly fringe/young guys, mostly from a fantasy standpoint, but for that I rely more on the supporters (typically on forums), than trusting the clubs or the news resources to be accurate (eg. Davidson touted as a JUH replacement despite playing all pre season on a wing).

I basically hate all the AFL media though, aside from minor updates about the status of players.

Too much of it is centred around boring chats about things being bad, and very little about interesting discussions. Honestly it's very culture war like where the interactive stuff is bait ("how could you rank Naughton the most overrated player in the league") instead of cool discussions (basically all of MJPs threads this off season), where it's aiming to be an exploration of a topic and peoples thoughts on it, and where you can learn about different approaches, instead of something trying to provoke you into a reaction.

Same, don't mind at all good oppo players missing our game, it's the long term injuries that really suck for any player, as for news about players being linked to other clubs re: Pickett, awesome! Same too with major issues at other clubs, i'll grab the bag of popcorn watching those unfold, it's nice to see the likes of the Dees implode and i hate that Geelong have been so good for so long with a strong culture, but respect them for turning their club around 15-20 years ago.

I have a particular interest in non-APS kids and mature agers getting into the system the hard way, and doing well enough to play senior AFL footy. I find those types of stories 'good news' and I'll never tire of them.
