Both, having great years, and can be justified as AA potential.
Many weeks to go, let the players fight it out......

Axeman, data does not need to be perfect, just objective and consistent. As a starting point, it is still light years ahead of what most people think their footy IQ is. The main point is, compared to recent years, coaches and teams are doing a lot of different things with their wings than they had been doing, making it harder for us, as fans to lock down on what is the wing position, and in the context of this thread, who or which type to pick at wing.

I am getting nervous for Libba. Would love for him to get that AA honour, can he hold on, god I hope so.

I reckon his game has slightly eased off a bit with Bont back, Libba was in everything and you could see the strain on his face just how hard he was working, and you could argue that he was in career best form up until....the Bont, maybe the captaincy gave him an edge in trying to lead on field, but it's as though the load has eased somewhat which is great for the team and for him not to burn out at some stage.

            Maybe. From a ratings perspective.
No Bont - Rating 17 Avg

Apart from playing for Collingwood, there is no good argument for it.
Great to see mainstream media has Libba in.
Both wings, pretty much playing as forwards, interesting.

My go at roughly the mid-point of the season. Tried where possible to pick a balanced side, which isn't an easy task.

                  B: Uwland, Taylor, Howe
                  HB: Wanganeen-Milera, Moore, Ash
                  C: Bailey, Anderson, Dempsey
                  HF: Greene, Cameron, Long
                  F: Higgins, Hogan, Elliot
                  R: Gawn, Richards, Smith

                  Int: Libba, Thilthorpe, Sinclair, Butters

No arguments from me Mantis, based on what I see, and from watching footy, I am okay with every player here.
Although my own Bias, if picking my own team, I would kick Smith all the way out of the 40 man squad.
                    Like you went for Uwland.

Does anyone even bother with ratings when it comes to AA selection?

I heard Shaun Burgoyne on the radio flatly refusing to believe Bailey Smith was rated 22nd most effective player in the competition, week before last. Insisted he had to be higher, ignoring the butchering and the clangers (that we all knew were a part of his game as Dogs people).

My fear with Libba is he'll rate his pants off, but unless he keeps hitting the scoreboard he's no chance as there're too many Bailey Smiths out there getting a bit more of it with flashy running and media hype.
                      TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

                        Yeah, good call.
They do have the ratings, but they need an adult in the room from CD to guide them through how to interpret the ratings.
Based on the faces in the AA selection committee and that Fox documentary, they need some supervision.
Better to not use ratings and stats at all, if you don't understand how to use them.

I have never ever agreed to the make up of the AA team. In my opinion it should be based on the best person for the position on the field and not trying to fit in every Midfielder somewhere like wings, or HFF.

The selection of the panel to pick all these things is dubious at best.

It might not require a high level of education, but you wonder if some of them are able to put aside personal bias at all.

That is before you question their aptitude.

Maybe All Australian should be picked by the coaches on the proviso that they need to select a team that includes none of their own players.

I've never heard this idea before but it makes lots of sense. Would add to the respect of the awards.

The current system is clearly flawed so it does need a rethink.
