    Gather Round

Well, there doesn't look like there is a dedicated thread to Gather Round so I thought I would step in on behalf of my great state.

If you haven't been, it really is a terrific week and from all reports it is going to be bigger and better than ever. The Higgins comment was sorta funny, but it is a bit of an outdated, uneducated view that taps into a lot of old school streotypes about Adelaide. I would recommend if you haven't been and you have a similar view of Adelaide that it might be time to get over, and given last year *could* be the last iteration for a while I wouldn't miss it if you haven't been.

I am disappointed I couldn't get my hand on Barossa tickets (I was hoping we would be scheduled there) but I have tickets to Friday night, Saturday at Norwood, Sunday at Norwood and the Port v Hawks game.

I will try to add some favourite places to eat, drink, get coffee etc for those that are over and I am sure other posters can contribute. Feel free to ask any questions!

On our club front, the following information has come via the club around our official engagements. Note that the Alma function has now been changed to Free (they were originally trying to slug $70 a head). Disappointingly, we are one of about 6 clubs not doing a clinic. The clubs doing them are spread out over most of the SANFL grounds and I thought there was a great opportunity to get out to Glenelg (nobody is running a clinic out there).

Want to get in on 2025 AFL Gather Round?

    Ticketing
Ticketek is the official partner, with all games sold out aside from the two Saturday AO games (suprise, surprise with the calibre of the teams haha). That said there are only a few hundred left for each.

I am probably not telling anyone anything groundbreaking below, but it astounds me that tonnes of people are still falling for sheisters trying to sell tickets on Facebook. There are likely a few genuine people, but for the most part it is a scammers paradise.

    Better options:

Ticketek Marketplace is the official resell platform and the safest way to get your hands on tickets to sold out games. Resellers can only slug a maximum of 10% extra too. Tickets sporadically appear, just keep checking in and try to be quick.

Tixel is another safe site that is worth keeping an eye on. Like TM, Tixel is safe as the money doesn't get transferred to the seller until they have provided you with the tickets. Unlike TM, resellers can charge whatever they want- but this close to games people will likely just be in a hurry to move unwanted tickets on.
Buy and sell tickets for music, festivals, sports, theatre, and comedy securely on Tixel with price caps, fraud prevention, and fast sales. Trusted partner of top events and artists in Australia and globally.

    Stubhub
This is an O/S platform that works a little like Tixel, but they do slug a fair premium on top of the sale price. It is riskier, but Stubhub do give some assurances that they will guarantee the tickets. I have used it quite a bit and have never had issues- like Tixel the seller only gets their cash when they transfer the tickets. you can use PayPal for an extra level of protection. You can also select seats on the ground (where they aren't GA) and use the Virtual stadium feature for AO to see what the view is like. There are currently tickets for all games on Stubhub aside the Barossa games (and only very limited tickets for the two Norwood games). If you are looking for tickets just search for one of the teams for the game you want.
Buy and sell sports tickets, concert tickets, theater tickets and Broadway tickets on StubHub!

      Best Burger:
Bread and Bone (CBD)- This is arguably one of the best burger joints in Australia if you believe burger lists. I think it could be- and I have "studied" far and wide.
Tucked away between Leigh and Peel streets, you want to get a spot upstairs if you can. There is a hidden bar (Maybe Mae) beneath it (push the wall behind the staircase) and the previously mentioned streets on either side are full of cool small bars which is a great place to drink and hang pre and post game and it's only about a 10 minute walk to Adelaide Oval. I've even seen Johnno and the Fox team eating at B&B on a gameday.

Great thread TAC. I have have never been to gather round but would love to go at some stage. I wasn't organised enough to work on tickets and planning the weekend. Enjoy the footy and let's hope we win on Saturday.

Geez, surely our game deserves the big venue instead of one of the two crap team games at AO on the Saturday.

Just more big team wank. The AFL sucks.
            The curse is dead.

I haven’t used it, but I had a quick look and its interface etc is almost identical to Stubhub. I suspect they are one in the same..

For anyone that is looking, Dogs v Lions tickets are available at $27 on Stubhub ($32 on Viagogo). Not sure of the margin on the latter, but Stubhub throws about an extra $30 on the price in their fees.

They know this was a colossal screw up. Dogs v Lions should have been the marquee Saturday night AO game- it would have sold out twice over with local interest alone.

They could argue that they couldn’t foresee Melbourne and Essendon being quite so bad and justified the afternoon AO slot, but Carlton v WC was always going to be a complete stinker.

Carlton v Saints in a matchup would have worked better to accommodate the travelling fans and been a much better game. 15k at Norwood would have been enough for Melbourne v WC- surely they had to see Melbourne were on the way down?

When I was living in the UK Viagogo had a horrible reputation for scammers, and there was very little protection or support offered to the people buying the tickets.
This was almost 8 years ago now, and I think Australia regulates it better... But I would be cautious.

I used stubhub all the time.

I used viagogo. It's either entry into the game or entry into the local pub.

"Norwood Oval is a suburban oval in the western end of Norwood Adelaide and is home to the Norwood Football Club "The Redlegs". The Redlegs compete in the South Australian National Football League.

The oval has a capacity of 15,000 people, with grandstand seating for up to 3,900 and with the dimensions of 165m x 110m it make this the narrowest ground in use in the SANFL. It's record crowd was 20,280 during a 1971 SANFL match between Norwood and Port Adelaide"

is my least favourite SANFL ground. It is literally bottom barrel if you line the grounds up.

But Norwood is close to the city and the food and wine festival is aces. So there is that.

Also, I am drunk at the Royal Oak (great live music pub in North Adelaide conveniently located across the road to the best 24 hour bakery). Where the bloody hell are you?
