I love that Foxtel now have the rights to have their own commentary team and camera's for all games.
BUT... damn their commentators are bog ordinary. Mark Howard, Matt Hill, Dermott Brereton, Alistar Lynch, Ben Dixon.
BUT my biggest soap box is the producers are deciding rather than replay a goal they prefer to replay Rory Lobb falling on Lachie Neale 500 times... It happens every game.
I dont mind Gather round and from the size of the crowds its a success , and lots of families use it now as a get away to the city of churches . I agree with azabob that the commentary team at fox leaves a bit to be desired ,especially Brereton whos commentary is like his describing nuclear science , its so intricate that it looses many supports , i still dont understand why if he sees football so clearly so precisely why he hasnt ever ventured into coaching , but i can imagine a group of players standing in front of him while he rambles on about how they should play and them wondering what the hell his talking about , there thats my soapbox rant .
Is it a success? Not for us apparently, we're 0 and 3. But they got record crowds this year so that's great for Adelaide (the city, not the team ).
But... there is a lot of irony in the powers that be making GR into a big event advertised for families, and then the moment the dates get announced, Qantas and the hotels all hiking their prices. I went to the first two, but seeing flights from Melbourne at $500 each way (it was about half that last year) was a pretty quick mood killer so I didn't bother this time. I get the whole 'supply and demand' behind it, but it's still not a great look.
I got an email from the club about a week ago saying that three of the Adelaide Oval games still had tickets available too, which suggests this sort of stuff is already pricing people out. Which is a shame, it was a great experience the times I went.
I was looking at the fixture the other day.
We don't play Richmond until round 15. Annoying, but understandable, just luck of the draw. Because surely we play every team once in our first 17 matches?
We don't play Melbourne until round 22, and West coast until round 23.
It's a farce that, at the end of round 17, each matchup hasn't occurred once.

That has been happening for quite a while now

The fixture is compromised enough as it is, it feels like something that should be pretty simple. Get to the end of round 18, each team has played the other 17 and had a bye - then you can actually look at the ladder and trust it as a gauge of the competition.
