    Draft redo : 2023

So there's this guy. He's 19, he just had a quarter for the ages and pretty much was the match winner for our beloved Dogs v the Swans, going toe to toe with one of the best in the game Heeney.

What really sets this kid apart for me is the footy IQ and leadership. From what I've heard it's the same off field and hes a future leader of our club.

He was pick 45. 45! At this stage I contend it's one of the greatest draft steals ever.

Of course that man is Horsham's own Joel Fridge Freijah.

So I had a look at the draft that was 2023, and thought who would I swap this kid for? Then I thought why don't I just for fun re-order the top 10 and this is what I got.

    1. Harley Reid (1)
    2. Joel Freijah (45)
    3. Colby Mckercher (2)
    4. Daniel Curtin (8)
    5. Logan Morris (31)
    6. Nate Caddy (10)
    7. Nick Watson (5)
    8. Ryley Sanders (6)
    9. Caleb Windsor (7)
    10. Darcy Wilson (18)

And even with Reid..... I still had to think about it. I went Reid just because his ceiling is anything but wow... We killed this draft considering we got Sanders, Croft, Freijah.

Where we you have Joel placed on redo ?

    Great idea Grantysghost .
Ok , i have Freijah going NO1 , ahead of Reid , and not because Joel is our boy but because in my opinion Reid is flashier, his highlights reel looks a touch better but .
Freijah is more consistent , he dosnt have a big gap between his best and worst , still very eye catching .
    1 . Freijah .
    2 . Reid .
    3 . McKercher .
    4 . Morris .
    5 . Watson .
    6 . Curtin .
    7 . Wilson .
    8 . Caddy .
    9 . Sanders .
    10 .Windsor .

Probably not a coincidence that the two 'bolters' in your redo are playing for good sides with lots of support.

If Reid (or Mckercher, or Caddy, etc) was at the Dogs or Lions I suspect we'd be seeing a different player.

Having said all that, Freijah is a freak and pick 1.

I actually really struggled with it too. After last night it's hard to argue, I don't think any of his draft year have stood up and carried the team over the line like that in a big game. Morris for the Lions maybe.

Wilson is a super good player for the Saints.

Yes, that development side of it is an often forgotten component of what makes a player.

Training with the Bont v training with a lesser human for eg.

Top 2 are Freijah and Logan Morris for mine...what Logan has done so far is amazing, and being a key component for last year's premiers already has him at number 1. My only question is do the Bulldogs actually scout players in their own local competition - we seem to miss so many good WFNL players when they are right under our nose.

              Totally agree Grantysghost .
Freijah's effort last night was sensational and without that effort we dont win , he dragged us over the line .
Your right about Morris his taken that Brisbane side to another level at times , but does have his very quite games .
Reid i think , if he was at a Collingwood , Brisbane , or another top side i think we would be seeing a much better player .

Yeah good point he was a Jets boy.

I think with our glut of tall forwards and having Croft coming in we wouldn't have grabbed him any way.

I'd say we cover that area well enough.

What I like about Freijah is he is so cool calm and collected. He is mature beyond his years.

                      I agree with this.

Morris is off the charts in a demanding position and Joel is just unbelievable.

I don't think either club would swap their man now for Harley Reid.

We wouldn't, but I'd say most clubs would.
There would be a fair number of clubs that would take Caddy at pick 3 in a redo (e.g. Sydney). I hate Essendon but he's a ripper and demands the opposition put work into him.

He is, moves really well for a big guy they nailed that pick.

I remember mjp had him as his number 1 pick. Was a bit sad when Essendon got him even if they had to pay Geelong a tax to do so. Probably ends up a bargain. Though I think the latter pick might have been used to get Mannagh, so O'Sullivan would have to be a fair bit worse to call it a bust.

Will be a very interesting trade to look back on in 2028
