I'd rather Rowell than the other candidates of the wobbles and Geelong.

Wouldn't hate seeing Rowell win but geez, some very questionable votes, he received 3 votes against us yet was the 31st ranked player that night with 20 disposals, 2 tackles and a goal, Libba 35 and 10 tackles, whilst having 16 disposals and 10 clangers v the Swans - 3 votes! Wow!

They have been on social media, there have now been 3 games he received the 3, yet going by numbers was far far back in the pack, a bit like last year when Nick Daicos received 3 in a game he had 16 and was subbed out, his brother had 37 or so possies, rough.Comment

It's become a joke of an award, so no surprise on some of the questionable voting going on.
At least it's a likeable kid in Rowell and not Sniff.W00F!Comment

You've astutely pointed out how terrible it is.Comment

It has become a mids award because the game has changed and they are on the ball all the time racking up disposals. The old days everyone basically stayed in their position.
There will be flaws and some strange voting but I would never change it.FFC: Established 1883

I don't agree. The Brownlow has been going for over 100 years and is a tradition. Do you want some media nuffies to give the award, like they do for the AA.

I take your point about the media though. Like most things these days, everything has become a popularity contest and the media are the biggest suckers for it. Coaches hold grudges. Maybe a weighted mix is required. But even in such a case I wouldn't put a single umpire in that mix. Their jobs pretty tough without having to work out who's impacting the game the best.Comment

I think the system needs to change and the voting needs to be taken away from the on field umpires. You could put a couple of junior umpires in a box to watch the game and cast the votes even the reserve umpire could be involved at least someone who get an overall view of the game. It still needs to be people who are impartial.Don't piss off old people

The best part of the night was hearing the work that Harris Andrews’ does for Beyond DV. Great recognition for his work by being awarded the Jim Stynes community award. An impressive young man.👍 1Comment
