    Spot on Jeemak.

    Majority of players these days also seem to know each other in some form or another. Leaving one club to go to another isn't such a big deal anymore.

      I think what I’m saying, is that it seems to me that money/opportunity is an important factor. Remember, every player is only one injury away from no career. You will get the “Chris grants” still in the game, but this is a completely new generation, a new mindset for players of today.
      Ablett played most of his prime years at GC though - the others you mentioned all effectively earned a pension.

      He will still be a Cats legend because of his surname, but it would have been a much bigger imprint if he had played all 300+ games there.

              Scientists in Geelong are busy reanimating the corpse of Tom Wills as we speak.

              Seriously though, surely Smith and Higgins aren't going to play for chump change? Their salary cap baffles me.

                  Like all the big teams, there’s obviously other “ways” payments are accepted...legally.

                        If you've ever lived in Geelong and I have, the stories you hear about property deals etc abound.

                          That is how Nathan Brown was enticed to Richmond. Property deals, pub ownership etc.

                            Yep, there’s always ways around it. Dusty earns around 1 million in endorsements.

                              Smith, 32 in December, had also been offered a three-year deal by Melbourne but chose the Cats' two-year offer in part for lifestyle reasons and an interest in living in the Geelong area.

                              Lifestyle reasons = Free "Cabbage" for life via Frank Costa.
                              Cabbage = Surf coast property.

                                I've not long finished reading a book about Tom Wills subtitled "The first Wildman of Australian sport. Very interesting guy. I wonder if we would have had the fascination for sport in Victoria if it were not for him?

                                I coped with Browny leaving. We were well compensated for his departure. That we chose to piss that compensation against the wall is down to us not him.

                                However I will never forgive him for renovating the Richmond Club Hotel and making the carpets non sticky.
                                They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.
