Re: 2020 Player movement
Out of contract still I believe, which is crazy. McGrath is as well.
The only other Bombers i think worth looking at are Zach Merrett, who would be good on a wing for us but would cost us everything. Aaron Francis is the other, hasn't really made it work, nearly left a couple of years ago and has done little since. He's not really a type we are screaming out for, but there is upside there and if we make the cuts to our list that we should we could do worse than give someone like him a spot.I should leave it alone but you're not rightComment

Re: 2020 Player movement
I did see some sort of explanation on this. Supposedly have a couple years of banked cap and some frontloaded contracts like McGovern and Martin.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]Comment

"Carlton had significant salary-cap space for 2021, due to an under-spend over the past seasons, which the Blues had to take advantage of or they would lose that additional money to spend on players. Teams that don't spend all of their salary cap in a season can "bank'' the money and spend in the subsequent two years and exceed the salary cap in the subsequent years."

This just flies in the face of that. So what Carlton can spend 10 percent more than everyone else next season? Should teams just load up for one year like some local clubs. Not sure I get it.
If they used the money they didn't spend on the cap on other things in the business like the footy department, community programs, player education etc. a commensurate amount over the soft cap that would make more sense to me.
Is this another U.S. system they've copied ?BT COME BACK!

“Although we wish Adam all the best, he is not a free agent and therefore a suitable trade will need to be forthcoming from Carlton. Clearly, there is an expectation of compelling compensation for a player of Adam’s calibre.FFC: Established 1883

Re: 2020 Player movement
It's not just Dodoro. It's the entire pro-essendon media.
This from Jon Ralph on twitter:
"A glass half full way of looking at it for Essendon fans if Daniher joins Saad in leaving. You play hard ball and demand pick 7 or he's not leaving. You get a first-round compo pick for Daniher. You end up with picks 6, 7 and 8, which will only be shuffled back a pick or two"Comment

Re: 2020 Player movement
We can poke all the fun at Dodoro we want, but he is RIGHT.
Saad is NOT a free-agent.
Essendon gave up significant capital to attract him - and, based on his comments at the time, made a reasonable commitment to his family etc to support him as an Islamic player participating in elite level sport. I don't know what Carlton's first pick is, but Essendon should be asking for it.
I am a bit scorched earth when it comes to this I know but the rules are there to support the clubs AND the players...not just the Players. Saad is NOT a free-agent...if he wants to nominate his club, then that club needs to be prepared to deal. And if I was Essendon, I would be saying the Carlton (and Adam Saad) that I understand his point of view, but he is a required player and it is their first round pick AS IT STANDS TODAY (no trading down to pick 18 and saying "This is our first round pick") or he is an Essendon player...and if he wants to sit out of footy for 12-months, fine, we can revisit the conversation in 12-months time...enjoy your job doing whatever the heck it is you do when you aren't playing footy.
If Saad genuinely wants to leave Essendon, then Essendon should have the opportunity to find a deal for him - a suitable financial / geographical deal for Adam with suitable compensation for Bombers. They shouldn't be restricted to dealing with one club because of a player who has been in discussions with rival clubs whilst under contract. It is rubbish. What should I tell her? She's going to ask.Comment
