Am I allowed to start a LOL Richmond thread?

    I know, I know.

They've won loads of grand finals.

But that loss last night was an all time gut punch. Which makes me so happy.

I always say the best way to win is by one point on the last kick of the day....and the only thing that can beat that is for all that to happen on the back of a controversial umpiring decision.

I have been a fan of Richmond throughout this little era of theirs - they play exciting footy and all - but they also have been getting a huge 'pass mark' from all commentators despite losing every close game they have been involved in all year...once is an accident, twice is careless...it's now SIX TIMES which makes it a 'thing'.

    Anyway, LOL RICHMOND. Seeya.
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

They are the anti-Collingwood this year. They have panicked and made so many crucial mistakes late in close games all year. They could and should have gone deep this year but they have been their own worst enemy.

They led in 7 games at 3/4 time this season and did not win a single one of them. Amazingly self-destructive season.

I for one am happy they are out. They have had their premiership run - let someone else have a go.

Impressive side who have found a way to make themselves finals relevant most years. I have a lot of respect for what they've achieved.

Yeah gone the early crow imo.

Richmond have been incredible for the last 6-7 years with a period of sustained success we could only dream of.

But then again, they're out and we're still alive.

1/. I did ask "Am I allowed to start a LOL Richmond" thread...you could have simply answered 'NO'.

2/. The result of our game (and I am expecting it to be quite disappointing - they won 15 games, we won 12 games, they are better this year, it's pretty simple) has naught to do with my amusement at Richmond losing by 2-points with a very controversial umpiring decision playing a large part.

Re: Am I allowed to start a LOL Richmond thread?

                      Thanks for this thread MJP,

For what it's worth, my answer is a resounding YES.

Richmond have played good, exciting footy during this era, and grown increasingly unlikeable as well - I now hate them deeply, and the finish to last night's game was truly glorious.

That coupled with the vision of Hardwick calmly accepting each umpiring decision with the serenity of Chris Scott/Clarkson gave me deep joy.

(I too expect to lose tomorrow night, but nothing will take away from the delight of first the Blues, and now the Tigers, ending their seasons with such spectacular ineptitude.)

This is the nub of the problem. A camera phone from 100m away has better resolution and is more effective than the AFEL's multi million dollar ARC technology.

There are a dozen people on salaries in excess of $900k a season in the office of the executive at the AFEL, and none of these obscenely paid career corporatists can be bothered to get the basic fundamentals like scoring integrity right. They are a bloated organisation, akin to the worst of govt beurocratic excess, clinging onto their not-for-profit status in order to collect millions of undeserved dollars from the taxpayer. Bunch of talentless grifters.
