We absolutely have some mental demons to deal with at the moment too but no finals wins in pretty much a decade is very very poor. I know Essendon fans could only wish to have such a poor recent record but Port should be embarrassed by it.

What an amazing impact Kingsley has had in less than 12 months. I would not begrudge them a premiership this year at all, especially if it means they knock the entitled and pre-ordained filth out next week.
They are us 2016 at the moment no doubt.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

They going to have some pain when Dixon retires. Maybe in 50 games Sweet may take his place, you never know ....
Dixon has already retired he just still running around. The bloke is legit broken.

Yep, outside of Toby Greene and his BS my view on the Giants is that they can't hurt us anymore after 2016 and that losing a prelim and a grand final is an apprenticeship they needed to go through to be a "real" footy club.
          TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

Interesting that there are two teams from the bottom half of the 8 in the prelims - Carlton (5) and Giants (7). 3 and 4 have both been booted. That's not normal, is it? Probably a sign of a good even comp.

Was thinking about how well they've done compared to my initial time supporting the Dogs from 1980-1991 (GWS been in for 12 seasons).

Think we were in 3 finals won 1 (85) one prelim loss.

Giants have already had 15 finals, won 9 lost 6 including a prelim.

They've been a very successful franchise.

Very rare I'd say. Can't recall the last time that happened.

Collingwood playing in their 11th Prelim since 2002, this is the sort of finals experience I want

2014 I believe - Geelong (3rd) and Freo (4th) both went out in straight sets.

                      Pretty impressive.

Advantages to being the biggest club in the land though, pretty easy to attract players.

                        Who have they attracted though?

                        Lipinski?

                        Hawthorn threw Mitchell out.

                        Howe I guess from Melbourne.

The big unit from Brisbane I guess?

                        Bobby Hill?

Gold Coast threw out Markov. Adelaide likewise Frampton. Darcy Cameron went undrafted for 4-years.

I'm just not sure the "makes it easy to attract players" narrative is accurate here. I mean - it should in theory be easy for them to attract players but aside from Treloar - who they then discarded - which recruiting battle have they even 'won'?
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

Hill, Adams, Howe, Cameron, Hoskin-Elliott, Mitchell have all been pretty effective. Lipinski and McStay have played most games when fit.

Without delving into yesteryear they've always seemingly recruited well (Treloar, Jolly, Ball etc) to help them remain competitive at worst and contend at best.

It's not a knock on them though, they're a great club. They develop players well (how much better has Frampton been!? He was unplayable previously).

Collingwood have also good success rate with their rookies and SPP:
                            Noble, markov, Johnson ,Cox
                            Ginnivan 2020 rookie draft
                            Tbd
Aiden begg, Josh carmichael , Tom Wilson

On the outer players like : Frampton, hell even Roughed, Lipinski

They tend to delist players sooner i.e Poulter
So their finals participation record is incredible.

Good article on the recruitment and rehab on Jesse Hogan https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/...19-p5e5wg.html

I am glad his having success away from Melbourne.

He was on his last chance at GWS and managed to turn it around with the right support , persistence and patience.
