    Thursday Night Football

The media got their wish and from next season Thursday night Footy is full on.

What are your thoughts as a TV watcher and about attending games on the night?

To me it's overkill but understanding that many people love watching football on the Tele and would watch many Thursday night games.

What are the pluses and minuses from your perspective?

I don't even like it from a viewing perspective on the TV to be honest. I get why they do it but I'm not enthused by it.
Even taking the family to watch us play isn't that enjoyable.

Not sure why but I have never liked going to the football on a Thursday or Friday night.

For me as a TV product it all depends on who is playing. Having said that if it is a neutral game and something better comes up I will do that.

        NOT A FAN.

Thursday is a TRAINING NIGHT for juniors everywhere (and seniors).

I simply don't get why they needed to add an extra day permanently to the schedule. The NFL dominate in the USA by having their games on SUNDAY...when games are on all the time, it just feels like they aren't as meaningful (20-20 cricket come on down) - it just feels like it doesn't matter.

Make the games events. Make the results mean something. I get it's for TV and I know people will watch (I mean, what are they gonna do - watch the new series 'CROSS' on Prime??? Y-A-W-N!!) but adding games left and right, having one million different start times....

(p.s. Cue everyone telling me the NFL have one game each Thursday and one each Monday. I know).
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

So I don't need to bother watching Cross? I was going to.

I don't mind it from a TV point of view for games we aren't involved in or interstate/Sedat Park games. But the 2 Thursday night Marvel games are annoying personally. It's a long trek to the footy and I'm not doing it on a Thursday night and especially can't do it with kids on school nights.

I was bored 2 episodes in. Missus finished it. Review: "It was good".

It's a weird time in my house. Youngest is on leavers, middle one is always at the GF's, eldest one with her partner and new baby...Somehow between Sat/Sun avo night and entire series was consumed (to be fair, not by me)...just seems a bizarro world as only 12-months ago that would have taken a month.

I can never go to a Thursday night game and to be honest with my new living arrangements I'll barely be able to watch the second half of games either

The NFL play the majority of their games on a Sunday because they can't play games on Friday nights or Saturdays whilst the high school and college football seasons are on due to an agreement between the NFL, NCAA and High school football. High school games get television priority on Friday nights and college football is covered by the major FTA and cable television on Saturdays.

That is why the nationally televised stand-alone NFL games are on Thursday night, Sunday night and Monday night.

The NFL would love to have regular Friday night and Saturday games if they were allowed - in fact once the college regular season is done in early December the NFL schedule games on Saturdays.

As for the argument about the AFL playing games on Thursday nights, I don't like going to the games in person, but I do enjoy getting home from a hard days work and watching a game of footy on the TV.

My local club would make a night of it with juniors finishing training at 6.30, having a meal and watching the Thursday night game at the clubrooms. The seniors would then finish training at 8pm, have a team meal while watching the AFL, and then do steam selection at half time of the game.

For me it's a no. Work at 4am so a trip to and back to Marvel will get me around 3 hours of sleep. It's not happening. Can't even watch it on TV.

Kids, the most important, it's a no as well. School Friday so no time for it. A stretch in the city for kids as well.

It gets more ratings and that is what matters to them. AFL has become so robotic. I've become members for Melbourne United (NBL) and Melbourne Vicotry (A-League) and it has such a more personal feel to it from the clubs and the league.

Hate Thursday night footy. Both for viewing on telly and for attending.

Eats into the family element of going to the footy for me, which has mostly eroded now. My interest in going is the next thing to drop off.
