Port did very well. Joe Berry is a great pick, Jack Whitlock is a steal and Moreas should add something for them.
Tigers would be happy with their wide range of players. Took a gamble on Hotton but have time on their hands.
Saints worked their backsides off later in the draft and traded away F3 and F4 and added plenty of taller players.
Sydney kept some club honest.
West Coast should be happy with the way they recovered from the trade period.

The Melbourne recruiting team position themselves well in both the trades and draft periods most years.
Mind you they need a key forward and ruckman.
The challenges the club faces with culture undoes a lot of the good list management decisions.

Melbourne should be wrapt.
West Coast with Davis late got lucky.
I still don't understand Essendon and I didn't like North's F1 trade gamble.
Richmond couldn't really lose given their draft picks but taking 3 KPFs inside pick 30 seemed like overkill. And they took a massive risk with Hotton at 12 plus Trainor. I'm not as bullish on their night as some are.

Sydney taking no KPFs was weird too.
The consensus was 'with so many early picks they can take that risk' but if then 3 of those picks are for KPFs it does kind of negate that concept.
That really worked out well for them. I still can't believe they had two chances to draft Buddy (and we had one) and passed on both of them. Deledio and Griffin were great players but Lance Franklin was a generational talent at two clubs.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

If memory serves me correctly it was actually Roughy that the other clubs were keen on not so much Buddy (bit if a flight risk at the time) which is why the Hawks went with Roughead at 2 and Bud at 5, there was talk that we "should have taken" Tambling because we played a few games in Darwin.

I think you're right about Buddy maybe not having the right attitude and being considered a bit of a risk. That was certainly the story Hawthorn were pushing anyway.
Going up to Darwin for the footy were the best footy trips ever.

Buddy had a game in the carnival where he only had a couple of possessions and that did throw a bit of doubt into clubs with the early picks. I went to a presentation from Clarkeson and he talked about why the preferred Roughead over him. They thought both of them would be star players but Roughy was a leader in the making.
