MRP - Addison Two Weeks, reduced to One with guilty plea

    Link

ESSENDON'S Leroy Jetta, Western Bulldogs defender Dylan Addison and Greater Western Sydney midfielder Toby Greene have all been offered one-match suspension after being cited by the match review panel.

Jetta was booked for striking Richmond backman Dylan Grimes during the Bombers' 19-point win at the MCG on Saturday night.

The speedy small forward was also cited for staging after he took a dive to try and win a free kick shortly after booting a goal during the second quarter.

Even with an early guilty plea, Jetta will still miss Saturday night's clash with GWS at Skoda Stadium.

However, he can accept a written reprimand for the staging charge because it is the first time he has been cited for such an offence.

Addison was booked for striking Gold Coast midfielder Harley Bennell during the first quarter of the Bulldogs' win in Darwin on Saturday night.

Addison's initial penalty was a two-match suspension, but if he pleads guilty the ban is reduced to one.

Greene has been charged with engaging in rough conduct Brisbane Lions defender Jed Adcock during the last quarter of the Giants' big loss at the Gabba on Sunday.

If Greene chooses to contest the charge, he faces a two-match ban.

North Melbourne veteran Brent Harvey can accept a reprimand after he was cited for striking Port Adelaide youngster Chad Wingard during the third quarter of the Kangaroos' shock loss to the Power on Saturday.

Despite Greene and Harvey receiving the same number of activation points (five), rough conduct is deemed to be a more serious offence than striking, drawing a bigger penalty.

His teammate, Lindsay Thomas, faces a $900 fine for making an obscene gesture towards the crowd during the second quarter.

Port's Jackson Trengove can accept a reprimand for the front-on bump he laid on North's Kieran Harper during the final quarter of the same game.

And West Coast midfielder Daniel Kerr was booked for making negligent contact with an umpire (Chris Donlon) during the last quarter of the Eagles' five-goal win over St Kilda at Patersons Stadium on Sunday.

He will be fined $900 fine if he pleads guilty.

He should feel a bit foolish as there was no need for it and he's letting down his team mates.

The MRP are a joke! How does Addison get 2 weeks and Boomer Harvey gets a reprimand? Are they for real? Addison's little bump just got Bennell in the sweet spot and it happened to wind him. Not worth 2 weeks. I know it gets reduced to 1 with an early plea, but sheesh. How many of these type of bumps happen each and every week? Disgraceful.

      I hope they challenge.
They've done studies you know, 60% of the time, it works every time!

Having to leave the field for a period of time because of a behind the play bump doesn't help Addison's cause. You just can't do that any more.

Be that as it may, ratsmac is right about the inconsistency though -- how is Dylan's two weeks and Boomer's straight punch to the side of a guy's head a reprimand?

          Beyond a joke these days.

It is disgraceful and clearly certain high profile players get preferred treatment. I'm sure we all remember Judd having no case to answer after breaking Pav's nose with a deliberate elbow.

Addison is being penalised because his opponent was so soft and Dermie and Shaw had to make a thing of it.

Did the guy that Boomer punch have to leave the field and was the ball in the area?

Getting winded(from a cheap shot) makes you soft?

The major issue is that it was behind play. Simply can't do it.
Bennell is soft as butter though and it hindered his performance so I can understand DFAs intention.

Shame really as he is becoming more and more reliable.

Not condoning Dylan's action on Bennell and agree with Chef on this but how Harvey's strike on Wingard can be assessed as reckless rather than intentional is just wrong. Harvey was having another shocker of a day and his action was borne out of built up frustration from having little to no positive influence. His action was more than reckless. The subjectivity in the detrmination of what is reckless and intentional continues to be baffling.

Getting winded isn't soft, but going to ground and staying there for an extended period is definitely soft.

He had to be removed from the ground.

So now the precedent of "having to be removed from the ground" as a determining factor for suspension is set. I play soccer, and believe me, you'll see similar antics if trends like this are to continue as the years pass.

Agree Dylan had to be suspended, but the Harvey decision is disgraceful!

I think regardless of whether or not Bennell is soft, the more ludicrous decision is giving Harvey a reprimand.
